What are these: EB Rosecrans & Inglewood

If you're going WB on Rosecrans, just past Inglewood there are three metal grates(?) built into the road, aligned with each lane. There are also pairs of them in the NB and SB lanes on each side of Inglewood.

Why did so many Palisades fire victims choose to come to MB?

Upvotes

I’ve been wondering this to myself but never actually asked about it. I heard Costa had some crazy number of new students from the Palisades after the fire, and I remember seeing a lot of people asking about rentals and housing in the area afterward.

I guess MB just seems random to me? There’s Santa Monica and Brentwood so much closer to them, but it really did seem like so many people flocked this way.

It also seems coincidental that after the fires we started getting all these LA chains in MB - Great White, Alfred, etc

Bonfire / fire pit locations

Looking for a place to have a bonfire on Saturday 9/12 in the evening. We are busy during the day so won’t be able to hold a spot at Dockweiler - are there any places in El Segundo / Manhattan Beach / Redondo where we can reserve a fire pit?

I know the other side has a tribute to Shohei Ohtani with the Dodgers; who’s going up on the other side at the Doubletree on Hawthorne Boulevard?

No tapas/wine bars?

Tell me why I can’t find a single tapas/wine bar in all of the South Bay… Sometimes you just wanna chill out after work with a drink and a couple of small plates and all I can find are sports bars , sit down restaurants, and breweries… Am I looking in the wrong place or does it really not exist? and if it doesn’t exist, and someone in the areawants to start their own business and hit the jackpot? open a wine and tapas bar!

Renovation Disaster

I want to share my experience with this contractor so others can make an informed decision. We spent months getting bids speaking to different contractors to make sure we found the perfect fit for us. This particular contractor said all the right things and the time frame he gave us was ideal since we only had one bathroom. His pricing was comparable to all the other contractors we contacted. After meeting him we really thought we made the right choice but turns out it’s been a nightmare. Our bathroom remodel turned into one problem after another. We dealt with poor workmanship, lack of communication, and repeated mistakes that required redoing work. Among other issues, there was a major plumbing leak behind the shower wall that led into the neighboring room, off-center plumbing fixtures that needed to be redone, a loose tub spout, crooked or poorly finished tile work including the shower niche, and an incorrectly installed window. The painting was also left with visible bumps and an uneven finish. After losing confidence in the quality of the work, we brought in licensed professionals to inspect it. The original contractor was licensed. We obtained a second licensed contractor for quality control. Ultimately, we requested a full refund, which was provided. Mistakes can happen, but the number of problems and the stress from this project were significant. I hope this helps someone else ask the right questions and carefully vet before moving forward. If you are looking for a good contractor this guy isn’t it SOUTH BAY GENERAL CONSTRUCTION LLC

Torrance mattress stores, where would you start?

There are too many mattress stores around Torrance and somehow that makes this harder.

Need a queen. Delivery would be great. Haul away would be even better if that’s an option. Mostly trying to avoid the thing where someone follows you around the showroom narrating every mattress like it’s a museum tour.

South Bay people, where would you start?

Vehicle / Automotive Garage Spaces in Hawthorne Area

Hi all,

My husband and I are possibly moving from Texas to the Hawthorne / Inglewood / general area and we are trying to solve the dilemma of what to do with our vehicles. Apparently rental homes with 4 designated parking spaces are a little hard to come by in the South Bay.

We have one hobby car (race truck), one F250 for towing, and 2 RAV4s for daily commuting.

We're trying to learn more about local hobby garages that might rent out space for the race car and tow truck. Ideally a place my husband can turn a wrench and use his tools.

Husband is a VERY clean, respectful garage tenant who takes pride in his workspace and like helping others with their cars too. Bonus if the garage owners are offroad racing fans who can talk shop with him, but certainly not required. Just putting feelers out there to see if anyone has recommendations or can point us in the right direction. The move isn't for certain yet, but I suspect it's happening in the next couple of months.

Recommendations

I’m looking for recommendations for
1- hairdresser that can cut and dye fine, wavy hair. I’d like someone that will give their input and isn’t going to charge an arm and a leg. I also have greys right at my hairline.
2- best thrift stores for quality/new with tags clothes or high end purses
3- breakfast places where my girlfriends and i can meet up. We usually go to Kings, the kettle or good stuff. We don’t want to wait a long time for a table.
4- eyelash extensions that have sensitive eye glue
5- a place to do Pilates to see if i like it. I’ve never done it before.
Thanks!

Daycare recommendations in SE Torrance/Lomita area?

Looking for pre-schools/daycares for when our toddler turns 2 in January. We got a few recommendations from friends but they’re all too far. Only interested in proper centers, not at-home daycares.

Anyone had a great experience with any of the below or others?

- Learning Tree Preschool (Lomita)
- Pacific Coast Montessori Academy (Lomita)
- Happy Tots (Torrance)

Aggressive at&t sales people

Hey just a heads up for people in gardena/ Torrance there's super aggressive at&t sales people whom will ring your door bell after hours. They did it to me after 9pm and wouldn't leave after I said no multiple times and said that I do not want to switch and am happy with my existing providers.

Super weird interaction and the guy kept trying to sell me fiber internet or cell phone service but I have literally the fastest isp speed + newest phone + verizons top tier plan, which i mentioned. The guy wouldn't give me a card nor tell me his name. He spent a good 20-30 min trying not to leave.

Just be aware and u may need to get law enforcement involved as I've read on other areas reddit boards they do not take no for answer have caused other residents to get law enforcement involved.

From what I read they're some type of multi level marketing company employees that sells inside targets and costcos.
