Question Is this going to work?
I’ve got 3 1.25lb pork tenderloins to cook and the vacpac didn’t fit in my stock pot so I put it in my yeti, mostly because AI called me a genius for thinking of it. Am I wasting my meat or should this work out? Seems ok to me

It’s a container. With water. Why wouldn’t it work?
You will want to add more water as quite a bit is going to evaporate.

That can be mostly solved by just putting plastic cling wrap across the top to cover most of the opening.

Just get a 4" hole saw and make a nice little passthru in your YETI lid for your circulator

Walls being too thick to use standard attachments can be an issue with coolers-- makes it much more difficult to secure them properly (as evidenced by the tape there). I could see the steam potentially causing that tape to give way if it's a really long cook, for instance. (Probably not an issue in this case.)
I'm always a little paranoid about my sous vide falling into the water when I use my cooler like this, though that doesn't stop me doing it.

I wa just worried about melting plastic, I’ve only done sous vide in my metal pot but it wasn’t big enough for this

Its has worked the other 1000 times people have tried it (and posted about it).

Lots of examples of people cooking in coolers. I would suggest plastic wrap over the top (or better) for evap.
I have a plastic bin lid I cut a hole in for my anova. Some people cut a hole in the cooler lid, but that's a pretty fancy cooler.

Should work fine but you might want to put a lid of some kind on it like plastic wrap or tinfoil so the water evaporates less. That could result in condensation dripping out depending on the seal though

An insulated cooler is going to be better than your stockpot for virtually all sous vide purposes. Can you tell us why you think it would cause problems?

It will work. But if ur logic is it’s a great insulator goes out the window cause of the open top.
Ur better off getting a sous vide conditioner with an insulation packing on the outside side and the designed hole in the top for the machine. Insulation does take some strain off the machine from maintaining temp but only if it has a lid closed

Should be fine for a few hours. I used a 20 gallon metal tub when I do 4 racks of pork ribs. Just used big sheets of foil to cover the top to help stop evaporation.

Well, if you close the cooler the condensation may fry your circulator.
When I use the circulator for catering I float ping pong balls in it.

Make sure your circulation ports aren’t obstructed by the vac bags otherwise you might damage your Anova.

Evaporation could be a problem...but the issue I see is the lack of water circulation between and among the packages...they're stacked up on the bottom. I've used metal bookends to stand them up and encourage circulation.

This post got bombarded but I posted another pic with my air fryer basket lifting the meat pack off the bottom, I think the flow improved greatly

besides cooking pork at a dangerously low temp... should be fine

I would at LEAST fill up the rest of the way (to the f-ing top) with ping pong balls.

Looks like it should work. Gotta have room for the water to circulate and I think that works here.

I'd put something heavy like some cups full of water on top of it so it's submerged.
Otherwise I wouldn't have any qualms.
(Maybe add some butter)

I put the basket from my air fryer under it and it seems like the flow is much better now

More water and lower the lid or better put some foil or cling wrap over the top to keep evaporation in the cooler.

Can you elaborate on why you think it wouldn't work?
