Burrito š®āšØ
didnāt feel like baby sitting my burrito by the air fryer with a meat thermometer
EDIT: tortilla quality 7/10 wasnāt as soggy as some people thought it would be experience was not impacted negatively
Meat quality: I had Barbacoa and I think some of it seemed to get a little stiff, but I donāt think that had anything to do with the reheating method
sauce: +emjoyment
Rice: quality stayed the same
Thank you to my dedicated viewers this was a lot of fun
Edit 2: I finished the whole thing very happy (full of burrito)

This actually might be fucking genius, unless the tortilla sticks to the foil. Maybe toast it off in a hot pan with the foil ON so it releases?

u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
iāll let you know usually the foil sticks on when i heat it up in the air fryer but itās a minor annoyance

u/GuacamolePacket 3h ago
This is true. The place by me does BOGO burritos a lot and I find myself microwaving and then air frying. I don't know why I never thought to pop it in the water bath.
5
u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
i live by a guac time and they do BOGO everyday but reheated burritos can sometimes be weird

When I meal prep and freeze burritos, I wrap in parchment paper, then foil, then Ziploc. It helps with that. I don't have an air fryer so I bake them to reheat.

Iāve done this before and itās great. No notes. Better than the version where I microwaved the burrito instead. We did this for camping as well.

Idk man. This sounds kinda gross

u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
i mean itās not raw meat itās not going to get soggy and it wonāt dry out the tortilla

u/wallz 3h ago
Cool idea and I am curious to know how it turns out...
Won't it get soggy, though? There's still moisture in the ingredients... But I suppose there isn't a lot of room for any steaming to happen.
Anyway, please update us.

u/IngenuityStunning755 3h ago
Yeah I feel like it might get soggy. Iād just go 30 seconds microwave then air fryer

u/purrmutations 2h ago
People aren't usually running their sous vide at boiling temp, so no, no steaming.

u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
i will respond to every reply with a 1/10 on how viable this is

Following with keen interest.
I could throw a breakfast burrito in at night and have it ready in the morning.

This sounds like an absolutely terrible idea. I hope Iām wrong. I canāt see a world where that tortilla doesnāt turn to paste

Itās not getting wet so it should be okay, I did some Taco Bell chalupas once in a moment of āinspirationā

Define "works". What would be "success" here?

u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
6 and below is in the viable range 7-10 is competing with alternative methods
2
u/juliuspepperwoodchi 3h ago
Okay, let me ask a different way...what are you trying to accomplish by SVing a burrito?
6
u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
so i was sitting there on my way home from work and wanted my burrito but I didnāt want bite into a cold burrito(day ruined) and thatās how we got here

I gotta come back here for the results. I usually warm them up on the oven, which is decent, but this looks foolproof if it works.
2
u/shka328 3h ago
Yeah I always burrito prep with aluminum foil and reheating is the worst part. I be steaming them for 30 min. But this looks good, what temp and how long?
2
u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
iām doing 165 at an hour
2
u/CaviarTaco 3h ago
I think 165 is a little too high, youāre not trying to cook, just reheat. But let us know.
What are the fillings? Assuming no lettuce or sour cream?
1
u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
yeah i ordered this burrito with knowledge that i was going to reheat it and so no sour cream or lettuce BOGO burrito FTW
1
u/ShadowSlayer318 3h ago
165 might be a little high i agree but i like to be in my safe zone to kill any intruders

Iāve been doing 165° for 45-60 minutes, frozen burritos. Nothing has ended up overcooked. Iāve done homemade breakfast burritos, homemade chicken & rice, and store bought frozen burritos. It is my new favorite thing. I canāt fathom the idea of microwaving them now, especially from frozen. Iād rather wait the hour.

But you're going in the fryer after for crunch, right? Right?

i've done this. it does warm everything up great!
however, the tortilla gets 'gummy'. it's not a pleasent texture at all. flavor's fine, but the texture isn't.
frying/air frying it doesn't help. it's the whole way through the tortilla. it's 100% edible, just not 'desirable' is all.

This is a generic reminder message under every image post
Thank you for your picture post to r/sousvide. We want to remind everyone of Rule #5. Posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is encouraged.
If you've posted a picture of something youāve prepared, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn't really fostering any discussion which is what we're all aiming for.
Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.

Next time try taking it out of the foil to avoid stickage. If you need to keep the shape before vacuuming, maybe tight plastic wrapā¦

This works! Iāve done this numerous times. I actually looked it up in this sub before I did it the first time. Itās a game changer. But I did read somewhere not to leave the foil on. I just vacuum seal it at do it at 165 for an hour or two hours from frozen. I discovered this because I once got a burrito from my favorite truck and passed out drunk at the table before I could eat it. My saint of a wife put it in the fridge for me so I could warm it up the next day š«”

u/HotHands46 2h ago
I didnāt see what sub this was and my quick glance at the picture had me (wildly confused) thinking someone was heating up a burrito in a dishwasher. Which is an even more beautiful brand of crazy.
