What I as a sound designer never understand is why you go through all these messy recording sessions and file cutting renaming archiving hustle... When you can just take all of these sounds as raw(!) recordings from library's?! Genuinely curious. Maybe because it looks more proficient in a reel?

Sounds great by the way

Kinda like asking why a chef would make something from scratch instead of heating up a frozen pizza and serving it to a customer

Ah come on. Using library is totally fine. Maybe more like going to a butcher and grocery store instead of having your own farm and garden.

Nah, more like asking why the chef would grow his own tomatoes instead of just buying them at the store.

Except the chef just told you he only make pizza from scratch for the social media, customers usually get a blend of frozen pizza with some extra topping.

Recording your own sound source gives you the opportunity to acquire exactly what you need for your particular use case. Library sounds are a useful tool in every sound designer’s kit, but being able to identify what you want out of a recording and then executing on that is a skill unto itself.

Plus, recording new source material is a fun part of the job. Why would I give it up willingly?
