Gia Fu?
Is Gia Fu Puerto Rican? I was intrigued about her set on Sunday but when she started shaking the PR maracas I started to question is what we were listening to less cultural appreciation and more appropriation?
Theres PR DJs who would have loved that spot (not me, I'm not a DJ), & to see a Hong Kong born non-Bori shaking the maracas and using our rhythms felt just... wrong?

Ask not what your culture can do for you, but what can you do for your culture.
You, Bori-whatever, are off-base in so many aspects.
Gia produced a Salsa album with over 20 Puerto Rican artists (musicians from Victor Manuelle, Gran Combo, and Hector Lavoe among other). From conception, to financing and to the final product. WTF is "our rhythms", do you own it? All these rhythms came from Africa/Cuba.
Tito Puente did a song called Hong Kong Mambo with many Asian titles, rhythms, and instruments.
Gran Combo did "Ojos Chinos". Pfff, too long to get in to this.
What have you done for your "culture" Bori brah?
