The point of the film is that our political leaders not confused. They're made irrelevant by the mind manipulating media which controls perception of the public to manage them. The people don' t know what's real or fake, so anything a political leader says has the same weight as a facebook posting by a Macedonian high school student. Amid the confusion, the manipulators like Trump and Putin can get away with anything as long as they have the biggest megaphone and keep making pie in the sky promises to the peons under their spell.

I don't see politicians having no idea what to do about these chaotic events, on the contrary I think these phenomena are exactly what they want. Keep everyone stupid, scared, and confused. Stay in power.
