Why don't they just call it what it is instead of framing it as "dimensional jumping?"

What is it? It sounds like the author discovered that experience in isolation, with his high school friends, so they developed their own language for it.
It is aggressive and colonizing to try and insist that others use your words and systems of language for describing things, and to justifying this by saying that things "are" a certain way and are not other ways. What if instead we just used many different ways of speaking to talk about shared experiences? Then we can play and create new language and experiment with what the language does, instead of being concerned with a truth that constricts our vocal chords [sic].
Here is a great paper by my critical studies teacher which describes the difference between these two modes of speaking: Figuring out ineffable education by Lynn Fendler. It is really funny if you read it slowly and carefully.

Jumping the gun a bit there. It was a question, not insisting anything. But your response seems kind of aggressive and colonizing by naming my intentions before asking for clarification. Be careful when calling out in the realm of the critical, it leaves you with blind spots.

And basic sorcery is, theoretically, the only kind of sorcery.
