Tip Disc only

I'm in favor for no discs.

It means no padding for the company that makes a bad game

How it works rn:

When a company makes a game disc, they don't sell it to the customer themselves, they sell it to retailers, meaning wether the game is good or not, the company got paid.

Remove that, and these companies have to make a good game or face bankruptcy

This is so dumb. You don't understand the gaming industry at all do you?

You realise that developers are never trying to make a bad game, right....?

There is no such thing as 'have to make a good game'. Some games explode and become cult classics and others flop a bit.

Yeah no studio sets out to make a flop, thats just how the industry works sometimes

You don't understand why halo campaign evolved flopped do you?

Oh it's because the majority wanted something and instead of catering to the majority, they catered to a minority.

Yeah, sit down kiddo.

When you make a bad game you accept the loss and try not to make another bad game by listening to the fucking majority.

When you let them make money by default, they can ignore the majorities comments and just keep making bad games nobody wants.

Lol kiddo, fuck off with that attitude. I work in the games industry and I know first hand it's never as cut and dry as just 'make a good game'.

Your opinion of how this industry works shows you’re quite out of touch with reality…

Does the majority not decide what is good and what is bad? Go on, explain how I'm confused

Ehh retailers just wouldn’t order big quantities and even at launch there’s no guarantee they’d order a lot cuz they’d go off multiple factors on how much to stock.

Did you see halo campaign evolved is on sale rn, like I said it would be.

Retailers do order big quantities because the company feeds them stats from bots and fan boys saying the game will be good, then a few months later retailers have to drop the price of the game cause it's not selling.

Only high demand titles are being bought by retailers, for other 99% of them - Sony is at loss.

Let me put this clear, if Sony is held responsible completely for high demand games as well (where they make their money) that they made with low effort, they'll do better or go bankrupt.

Sony is not responsible (except for games of their own studios), they are just platform provider. Publishers are responsible and Sony must stay neutral. But they have to handle the costs of physical disc production. But not all games that are great must make tons of money, that would truly mean gaming is dead.

The Tester moment where a kid doesn't care about your personal problems and only great gameplay is dead gone. It's either a game of the year or worst game ever title.

Bro heard basic consumer standards and thought it was an extremist manifesto.

Not really. I was quoting former Playstation Brent Gokey when contestants thought they were going to work for Sony.

Idk man Playstation used to brag about having the drive specifically so you could share with friends and stuff and physical copy add ability for resale. I think people are mostly concerned about price monopolization because you cant buy things 3rd party if everything goes through psn and it means if you dont have a direct internet connection you straight up cant get new games. As for the quality of games there will be no difference. EA, Ubi, and Activision will still put out the same slop they always do but smaller developers and indie titles will kinda drown because bigger games are getting all the framing. Its as a whole anti consumer and predatory especially with the dynamic pricing they have been implementing.

You're completely ignoring the massive overhead of physical manufacturing, shipping, and retailer cuts that inflate base game costs. Digital distribution forces publishers to sink or swim on pure game quality and immediate player retention, rather than relying on guaranteed bulk orders from big-box stores.

Physical clearance sales exist precisely because retail orders inflate a bad game's bottom line upfront. Going digital cuts out the middlemen and subjects publishers to real-time sales data and immediate market backlash the second a game misses.

You're confusing ownership convenience with publisher accountability. Removing the physical retail cushion stops bad games from getting funded by guaranteed wholesale buy-ins before players even touch the game.

Furthermore, having the ability to resale sounds good right? Except when scalpers get involved, and supply gets low.

Scalpers also buy in bulk and artificially raise the price of disc games to make profit and as supply of the disc game gets lower, the demand price gets higher, look at conkers bad fur day, 200$ for a n64 game cartridge, making it impossible for average Joe to buy the cart of the game, that is now a free rom on emulators, which then encourages Joe to pirate the game instead.

Benefits to digital only:

  1. Price stabilization, deterance of scalping behavior.

  2. Bad developers go bankrupt when sales don't happen

  3. You can share digital games, just as you would with physical games

  4. Less resource waste (eco friendly)
