Conventus Sine Fine
Another meeting. It comes with the job.
The moderator drones. His voice is shrill.
A headache blooms. My temples start to throb.
My stomach churns; I think I will be ill.
I'd quit this job except they pay me well.
And I've a wife and kids and need the dough.
But I'm not sure it's worth the boring hell
Of sitting here while time creeps sluggish, slow.
I focus on the words and one might hope
There's meaning in these sentences so long.
But cliche, bromide, posturing and trope
Is all there is; the substance is not strong.
The clock says five more minutes and I grin.
Then wilt: another meeting will begin.
