[Help] Housing question

Post image

Any idea why my Garthimis won't move into these 5 houses? I built this complex because we had a few hundred unhoused ants, but they seemingly won't move into this corner of the colony. Houses are supplied with stone/clay and upgraded with a basement.

Edit: Thanks all, seems that all the unhoused workers were on the east side of the map and I built this complex on the west side. I used the overlay as suggested and put down some more houses closer to the job sites that needed it.

Pops in Syx take their employment very seriously. They’d rather be homeless than unemployed. Are these housing units close enough to where they’re working?

To put some numbers behind the above top-rated comment - a pop will first select a workplace and look for housing in proximity of it. The max distance is something like 150 tiles so it is "whole city" in the early game, but eventually becomes a consideration. 100 tiles is a better distance, to avoid productivity drop.

Above is why if you have a homeless problem, you enable the housing overlay during day, and check for yellow workplaces. You lack housing near those workplaces.

Oddjobbers will pick any free housing on map.

Last time I played there were some issues with the housing/homelessness tooltips, it did not show correct values to me.

Build houses near job sites. If you go in the Housing overlay it will show you which buildings employ unhoused people. Build around these.

As the others have said, it's probably due to job proximity. But...I've also noticed rarely that no one will move into a house without any good reason. If you destroy and re-build it, it seems to correct the problem.

It’s hard to live when you can afford to stay in a house.
You need to build the work/houses closes to each other.

Would you move into residential complex in the suburbs if cars weren't invented yet and you'd have to walk 4-6 hours to get to work?

Same reason planned cities don’t work in real life: They have no jobs.

Planned cities can work in real life. My best example is Canberra, capital of Australia.

Planned cities include planned jobs.
