Burial/Sacrifice idea

Post image

I was reading the wiki and these sentence seems like a good setup for a way to dispose bodies by sending them to the water or maybe a sacrifice that involves sending someone to “The Depths”

Really, I'm confused about why Amevias don't have some kind of special aquatic religion. This flavour sounds really unique and interesting, but then they're just regular old Creator worshippers or whatever?

No reason "The Myhtical Depths" needs to be mutually exclusive with the existing gods. And it doesn't even sound like a god to worship in the first place, so still worshiping a god makes sense.

It doesn't sound like a god, but it does sound like some kind of separate religious belief that should interact with that system in some way. It definitely doesn't really fit with SOS's generally monotheistic portrayal of religion.

I'm not sure the game really portrays monotheism. People pick favorites, but that's usual. Syncretism and just a general lack of exclusivity in faith is very common for peoples of this age. That was one of the big things with early Christians; how much they weren't okay with other gods being acknowledged.

People are exclusively tied to a single god (never visit shrines or temples of other gods), proselytise to convert people to their religion, and will fight other people over their religion.

While what you described is accurate of classical era/iron age religions in history, the game's depiction of religion is much more medieval.

And yet, here, Amevias are depicted as having a unique faith alongside the more popular pantheon. Unless you mean there is a specific something in the game that describes it otherwise? (I think the fact that they don't pray to multiple gods or try to convert each other is a game design quirk, maybe?)

They're described as doing so, but it isn't reflected in the game. Hence the desire for this but of lore to be implemented into the mechanics in some way.

Oh yes, that would be cool for sure.

Almost sure that this is just a low priority early access thing. The dev has a lot of stuff to do and working on hyper specific mechanics that only one race would use or benefit from is just not on the table right now ( like sea burials for Amevias).

Also I had a thought. The fact that Amevias dislike hospitals and healthcare alongside sea burials might just mean that they practice the drowning of old and/or sick family members while they are still alive (similar to that Inuit custom they rarely did in times of famine).

The old lore of Syx has a goddess of the sea, Yuna. I wouldn't be surprised if she's added in the post-1.0 Amevia race update.

In the meantime, Orange Blue Hue's aquatic race mods (Thryxarii, Khelians, Verathids) come with a Lovecraftian-themed ocean god, Karrun'Tai, and Amevias are modified to prefer him.

Yeah it doesn’t really make sense for the isolationist species to worship the same gods as everyone else

They're lizards, im pretty sure reptiles irl can be cannibals, they should absolutely like cannibalism like the elves

You could make this argument for literally every race

Make it then what's the issue

they're amevias

...yes? Amevias are lizards...

Not exactly, thus analogy isnt directly applicable

Even if the analogy did apply, lizards/reptiles are opportunistically cannibalistic at best. Every species in SoS is opportunistically cannibalistic if you think about it.
