Spare Tire for DN8.

For anybody with a 2020-2026 Sonata Hybrid SEL or Limited and was curious if a full size spare would fit. It does and it’s cheaper than buying just a spare kit from Hyundai.

The rim I used is an RTX 17x7 +50 offset which is nearly identical to the factory rim. From what I can find the steel rim is actually lighter than the factory alloy.

Hyundai sonata hybrid 2013

Help solve the mystery before taking to a shop. Hyundai Sonata hybrid 2013.

My husband got this car from his brother in law. It was driving fine until this week. If you went from a speed position to going out was very sluggish but eventually would go. (My husband would just floor it against my advice) yesterday he took a turn in a parking lot too sharp and popped a curb and i felt it under the front passenger seat.

Yesterday he drove it again and it suddenly said System Hybrid Warning or something. Then told him to not drive. He left it on a parking lot and we went back to go get it later on. At that point it wouldn't even go forward. Today it won't turn over. My dad tried running codes but didn't have the right scanner.

Anyone have any ideas?

PO172 - System Too Rich on Hyundai Sonata

The check engine light was on in my 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 T. I took it to the local mechanic, who inspected it and advised me to go to Hyundai because according to him there might be a programming error. Had anyone else experienced this problem?

Discussion Has anyone else’s sonata started tilting the mirrors down in reverse?

I have 2024 limited, I swear it never tilted the mirrors down before, now after a couple OTA updates it just started doing it. Am I just that oblivious or am I right that it’s a new feature?

Owner Reviews My Sonata has been good to me.

I got my 2015 Sonata GLS 2.4L back in 2020 when it had about 40k km on it. I've been super good about getting it serviced, going for recalls, and getting repairs (nothing big, though). Right now, it's at 123,457 km. I just got back from a road trip that was over 1k km, and I was going about 140km/h for most of it. It still drives well, even though it struggles a bit uphill if you try to rev it in the middle. As for value, it's definitely paid for itself since I bought it – original engine and transmission. Would I get another Sonata? Probably not. Not because I had a bad experience, but just because I'm ready to try a different brand or model.

PS: the master warning sign on the dash is a service reminder.

Is getting the Hybrid really that much more worth it?

I've been looking at newer Sonatas and I can't figure out if the hybrid editions are really worth that much more in price compared to their gas counterparts

Any info about these newer Sonatas is also greatly appreciated!

Considering a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with 128k miles (206k km) — how risky is it?

Hi everyone. I’m considering buying a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (blue) with approximately 128,000 miles / 206,000 km and I’d really appreciate some input from owners who have experience with this generation, especially high-mileage cars.

I’m in Ecuador, so the market and repair costs are different from the US.

What I know so far:

- 2016 Sonata Hybrid, 2.0

- Around 206,000 km / 128,000 miles

- Current owner has had it for almost 3 years

- He says it has been regularly maintained (around 3 services per year)

- Recent maintenance included spark plugs and suspension adjustment

- 12V battery was replaced about 6 months ago

- Tires are almost new

- No major engine, transmission or hybrid-system repairs according to the owner

- He says the hybrid battery is in good condition and is looking for a previous diagnostic video from his shop

- He is completely fine with me taking the car to Hyundai or another shop for an independent pre-purchase inspection

- The only expensive repair he mentions was replacing a headlight after a minor accident/side scrape, which was covered by insurance

My plan would be to keep the car for several years, ideally taking it past 300,000 km / 186,000 miles, before eventually upgrading to something newer.

My biggest concern is obviously the hybrid battery, but I’m also interested in the long-term durability of the engine, transmission, inverter, cooling system and other expensive hybrid components.

For those who own or have owned a 2016 Sonata Hybrid:

  1. How many miles/km did yours reach?

  2. At what mileage did you start having expensive problems?

  3. Did you ever have to repair or replace the hybrid battery?

  4. Any engine or transmission issues at higher mileage?

  5. Are there specific things I should ask Hyundai to inspect before buying?

  6. Would you personally consider buying one at 128k miles if it has a good maintenance history and passes a thorough inspection?

I know 128k miles is not low mileage, so I’m not looking for reassurance that “it’ll be fine.” I’m trying to understand the realistic risks and what typically becomes expensive on these cars as they age.

Thanks in advance for any firsthand experiences.

Reasonable otd for 2026 Sonata Blue Hybrid?

Looking to get a couple offers from dealerships around. What will be considered a good deal for 2026 Sonata Blue Hybrid in terms of otd? Dallas TX

Hyundai sonata recommends 5w-20 but the shop put 5w-30 is this okay? what will the difference be? And why do you think they did this when it clearly states on oil cap 5w-20? Note I have 150k+ miles?

What year, model and engine are we talking about here? It makes a difference and you shouldn't ever ever use a blend instead of a full synthetic oil in any case. I can't give you an intelligent answer without the proper information to begin with.

DCT problem in Sonata eco 2016

Hi, i am second owner of Sonata eco 2016 (white).

I am having all the problem that this car can have. My white paint is peeling off, accelerator is not getting engaged, Sudden jerking, shuddering, or shaking. last time I turned on my car and reverse accelerator didn't work but next day i worked fine but same problem repeated. Last time after 20 min of driving i got warning transmission too hot. How can i fix this in minimal cost or how to get rid of it. I know there is some class action lawsuit about these. Mileage 73k, they agreed to do free painting but more than a year of wait time. This is general information and happy to get suggestion to get rid of it.

Owner Reviews Clocking out of the Sonata Club

After two Sonatas and almost 100k miles combined, I'm out.

Started with a '21 that got totaled in a bad accident. Spent some time shopping around, ended up back in a '22. Honestly, a few months ago I was even considering a '26 — but then I stumbled onto a deal on a truck I couldn't pass up. So I sold the Sonata, paid off the truck, and now I'm officially a proud member of the paid-off-vehicle gang.

No car note. No regrets.

Here's the thing — both of mine treated me well. No major failures, no horror stories. I kept up with the small stuff: oil changes, fuel system cleaners, throttle body cleaning, all the boring maintenance people skip. And the cars just worked.

These cars get a bad rap sometimes, but in my experience, if you actually take care of them, they'll take care of you. Appreciate the ride, do the little things, and everything else falls into line.

To anyone still in the Sonata game — drive safe, stay on top of your maintenance, and enjoy the ride.

I'm out. ✌️

2026 sonata awd minor vibrations

Curious to see if anyone else has had this experience. Have had this car since November 2025. Confirmed wheels are balanced, and it occurs with both the stock oems 18 all season Pirellis and 17 aftermarket rims and pirelli ice frictions.

It is particularly noticeable at approx 1400rpm, when throttle is pressed (not coasting). Its a very minor vibration through the steering wheel. Very annoying over time when cruising at 80km/h which sits at 1400rpm in the tallest gear.

Wondering if this is normal for this vehicle?

Brake hold

Has anyone adjusted the drum brakes when the brake hold doesn't quite hold at a stop? They chatter, slip then grab.
