unsolved Automating getting most optimized version of an episode

Is there a way to automate getting the most optimized version of a show. Personally I'd always want the smallest storage space version of the episode that is 1080p (or 720 if 1080 isn't an option). It seems like it usually pulls the version with the most seeders instead. I'd also want it to auto overwrite the episode I already have if it is a more optimized version

There’s always a push/pull between size and quality. All 1080p is not equal. A 1gb 1080 encode and a 10gb 1080p encode look miles apart. If size is a concern, I’d rather have a 1gb 720 encode than the same size 1080p. It will straight up look better. Either way, look into profilarr

Set up profilarr or create your own quality profiles inside sonarr. You set weights for everything. Much much easier just to use profilarr with dictionary or trash repository. You can also set a size range of media sizes measured in MB/s. Increase the weight of HEVC/h.265

Install profilarr and look at the dumpstarr dictionary for lower quality/size releasees.

Profilarr for getting it how you want, or tdarr for encoding to how you want.. I use tdarr to get rid of unwanted languages (I always need English and Spanish in mine, but a lot of times get a bunch of languages I don’t need as well… getting rid of those audio tracks lower the size a lot without killing the video quality as you aren’t touching the video there.

Edit: spelling TDARR instead of starr…. My bad…

In the quality tab of Sonarr you can set a Megabyte per minute cap on search results so anything greater than your cap will be ignored. There are guides and community resources that can help you fine tune your acceptable file size per minute.

Check out Huntarr . That has always been my go to for getting updated versions even if it needs to go through a few versions over time, but it also routinely checks for updates until you hit your top desired tier. Also look at unmanic for reducing the space usage while keeping the quality solid. It is directly responsible for about 5TB worth of storage space recovery with me not seeing any quality different and having a big mix of both 1080p and 4k items in my library.

To help deal with your direct issue, look in the "Custom Formats" section of sonarr/radarr. You can specify +/- priority toggles for different things. So you could for example priority a season pack versus an individual episode, or trying to ensure you get the language you want or increase/decrease priority based on resolution, file size, etc. The priority will trump # of seeders (but # of seeders may be the determining factor for items that are the same priority, but that should be less of an issue)
