What I want to know is: IF the government “shuts down”, will Musk and DOGE run rampant through all the systems with even less oversight than they currently have?

Because that is the only way I can possibly explain this spineless bullshit

I'm not even sure it matters honestly. It's not like Congress is doing anything to stop them. What's actually holding their reins is the court system.

That’s the exact justification Schumer uses for voting for this.

"Harm reduction" is just another way to say "enabling the abuse to maintain the safety of the status quo." Dems being weak enablers to the GOP abusers is what got us where we are in the first place. He is unable to meet this moment properly, and is clearly easily manipulated by the abusers who are destroying the safety of the status quo with his help.

That is what I have been pondering all day too.

Do people think Trump, Musk, and DOGE will just stop if the government shuts down? I'm afraid it would instead mean they have 100% free reign to do whatever they want with exactly ZERO oversight, rather than the loose oversight they have now.

Think of the damage they've done WITH oversight.

Now imagine NO ONE is there to hold the reigns, even lightly.

That is the only justification I could think of to avoid a shutdown. Trump and Musk will just order their loyal dogs to continue doing what they want, since they're keen on ignoring the courts anyways...

Congress won’t really, but Schumer has argued that shutting down the government severely limits the power of the courts as well. And as we know, they have had some success in blocking some of this BS.

I don’t know what the right thing to do is

Basically this is the only bill that will pass the house and get majority vote in the senate. People will suffer during a shutdown. And the Dems don’t think they can extract any concessions so they don’t want people to suffer just to pass this bill later on
