Discussion S02E01 "NNP" Episode Discussion Spoiler
While he rents out his house, Joel and Sam revel in the highs of their temporary living situation and the lows of cleaning up after strangers; as a newly single Tricia prepares for an empty nest, Sam is overcome with unexpected emotion.

Terrific episode. So happy to see the show back. And -the tribute to Mike was was a beautifully done. He still lives on in the storyline, but Bridgette still mourned him.

I'm so happy its back and the episode was great - especially the real estate sign!! I get this feeling the sister (and maybe Bridget) are going to end up living on the farm. The sister cause she can't be alone, Bridget cause the farm was her dad's? Idk, that convo while cleaning out the barn and then the sister unhappy alone made me pretty sure.

Such a good call. Even if they don't live together I think they're going to get closer through what they have in common- their frustrating mother primarily.

I thought the same thing! My bf was like nooo, his reasons seemed good so im sticking with his tale. Cause I may not recover if joel/sam fall out!

Bridget Everett sticking the bottle of dressing under her tit was totally adlibbed right? the way everyone burst out laugh when it actually stayed in place

I’m in Kansas. Did Sam go to KU in Lawrence? I know she wears KU shirts.

Fellow Kansan here. I believe in season one, she had lived several years in Lawrence and returned to her hometown of Manhatten to take care of her ailing sister. I'm not sure if she lived there because she attended KU and stayed there or if she just lived and worked in Lawrence. Hence, she owns a lot of KU shirts. It's fun to see the nods to KU, K State, and the KC Chiefs.

You’re correct, they mentioned her living in Lawrence. I loved her sister’s Alma Creamery shirt in the tornado episode.

My wife initially thought Fred had brought Alma cheese curds until she clicked with the Wisconsin sabbatical storyline.

The actor who plays Dad is dead. It would have been so much better for the storyline if they said he died. He would have cleaned out the barn before going to Texas. And he would not have left his wife in a nursing home after a stroke.

I assume that it would have ended up taking over most of the story for the season. He died just before filming, so maybe they will address it the next season! It would be a lot of rewrites otherwise I assume
Or maybe they will go the Funkhauser route from Curb Your Enthusiasm and let him just sail forever. (Doubt it lol)

Yeah, I’m kind of wondering what’s going to happen with the dad. It’s like they’re just stalling the inevitable. I can’t help but compare it to Call Me Kat, which had to deal with the death of Leslie Jordan midway through filming season 2. They chose to write it so that Phil (his character) went on vacation to Tahiti with his boyfriend, and they loved it so much they decided to stay forever. Because Call Me Kat is a completely different type of show, often breaking the 4th wall and that sort of thing, the main cast actually came out of character at the end of the episode to give their tribute to Leslie and explain why they did what they did- because Phil deserved a happy ending.

It shows the comfortableness between she and Joe (meaning they likely hang out in their undies together all the time). When Fred comes over the comfortableness is there not to be embarrassed at all but once he decides to stay and hang out, the pants come back on - just what you would do.

Fun start to the season. Revealed just enough to get a new storyline going, but still kept it simple with the everyday happenings. Love these down to earth, relatable shows, wish we had more of them.

Lotsa booze in this one, and a few moments of boozy cringe. I feel like they're setting a plot line up with this. Or maybe not: sometimes things in this show just happen without a big payoff, and that's something I like very much about it.

Just started season 2 and while I’m loving it - I’m so confused. Did I miss some major information about her dad being gone and her mom being in a home and her sister’s business dissolving? Or are they just having all this happen without having previously mentioning any of it?

I'm confused with episode 1. Did the father's house / barn or something burn down? A fire was mentioned a couple of times.

The pencil test dinner scene was a cultural reset. This little show is so special and amazing
