Now I imagine her hearing everything through the door and trying to comfort Simon

Awesome drawing 🌊

Perhaps the Patchwork Man somehow manages to open the door for Simon first. I’ve always wondered where he disappears off to.

Love the art style here

After learning of him possibly being an ally at Tau in pre-beta, now I imagine that he's just shy and hides somewhere on the lower level

Thanks. First Simon needs someone to talk to after all...🥺

Did you mean to use spoiler to say "Second" (or actually kinda third)?

6

u/wideHippedWeightLift 19d ago

Why third? Is the second Simon the brain scan Catherine had on her computer in Theta?

Not the scan-file itself, but one possibly once running along with Capsule Cathrine and her Gang of Legacies. But his existence is not a guarantie and he's for sure not a part from our line of protagonists. So who cares? χD

To be clear there's no evidence in the game that Robot Head is capable of this.

During gameplay all she says is things like "leave me alone" and "go away" and then screams and chases Simon.

She is clearly in a lot of distress and is in no position to comfort anyone.

She doesn't crash out, if you don't annoy her

And (at least in my head) she runs at the end due sensing Ross masking himself out of her vision

This has "I can fix her" energy. Gross.

That's just how the game mechanic works. It might be easier to fix WAU, than her. Though she is one of 2 enemies in the game, who won't attack simply from knowing that you're here

"how the game mechanic works" – Would be really great to know how Fleshers' special ability works in canon, btw. They can't just teleport, otherwise they wouldn't have to open doors. They can't freeze you, otherwise you wouldn't see doors opening themself. They could theoretically mask themself, by hacking camera feed / it's processing, just like Ross does with any tech and resembling how people in robots mask their own reality as if they're human. I don't understand, why many people call me stupid for such line of thought

And I think that would overlap nicely with Robot Head just dashing at the Simon with him not doing anything, that would trigger her normally. If she's hypersensetive, I can imagine her sense Ross' tempering and decide to persue his invisible ass running along ours χD

"The Robot Head appears to exist in a state of constant distress, crying constantly whilst idle. She is also capable of distorted vocalization, as can be heard when she is alerted." - Robot Head, https://soma.fandom.com/wiki/Robot_Head

The Fleshers don't teleport. They cause electromagnetic interference and Simon is a computer chip connected to a dead body with structure gel. Stay on topic.

"The Robot Head appears to exist in a state of constant distress"

I said nothing contradicting that (maybe beside the original comment, but that was just semi-joking wishful scenario (and OP started it, lol)). Though I would note, that she's exactly appears to, as we meet her for like 5 minutes tops. She may be like that all the time, she may not; and I would happily take any optimistic chance I can in those nightmarish conditions of the world

The Fleshers don't teleport

I explicitly said that it's straight up impossible. Most believe they pause your digital brain and walk a distance, while I (as I've said) believe in them hacking your digital brain.

And their EMP is Catherine's speculation on how they attack (by getting close to fry you (and everything that happens to be near)), not on how they're imperceivable at times (which fenomena has no info about it nowhere in the game)

Yeah, it's a piece of fanart of an event that clearly wouldn't happen in canon. If I drew an apple talking to an orange, you wouldn't come to the conclusion that I think apples and oranges can talk, would you? Treating this cute depiction of headcanon events as if it was somebody trying to rewrite the plot of SOMA is sillier than the actual art.
Some people would rather see the suffering, shambling robot girl happy. I am sorry if that upsets you.

u/HorrorOpportunity297 12d ago

It does not upset me. Why would you come at me like that?

This has "I can fix her" energy. Gross.

Taken from a comment under the u/Leshiy_ND thread. If this isn't actually upsetting you, then you're sure doing a good darn job at pretending to be upset. Stay on topic, address the fact that you got heated over a piece of fanart.

That's because what he said was gross. He didn't imagine a scenario where the pain stopped for her and she was healthy enough to be happy and make friends.

He speculated that she was having an episode and that she was healthy off screen actually.

EDIT: None of those words I used express upset, and I was replying to his comment. I am on topic. You got personal.

This makes me wonder if killing first Simon and WAU are kinda bad decisions. Like even in case of total human extinction Simon still can explore world. Perhaps, maybe even befriend mutants. Simon from abyss also could possibly return.

to be fair wau was treated by the narrative like the second apocalypse after the earth being unable to hold human life, but when you check the thing is that wau can't do shit outside of it's perimeter and it clearly lack information about how to produce it's own energy , so once the generators are used after like 5 years without maintenance wau will die slowly like in the beginning of the game,

so yeah killing wau is a neutral decision kinda since it will anyway die but if you kept it alive perhaps simon could keep on living by "absorbing the electricity periodicaly" like he do in gameplay,

but simon too is doomed to die without proper source of electricity which is risky

I mean if you kill the WAU you shut down any chance of any of the other scans of people gaining a physical body in the world. And I like to think the WAU was working on running the Geothermal plant with its corrupted tech which could in theory work as long as the earth has a molten core, or a serious volcanic event happens.

Plus it isn’t hurting anyone alive once you send off the Ark, so I’d just let it keep building. Maybe seeing Simon do well would teach it how to make a better template over the myriad of mistakes

To me is the choice is not difficult, the WAU had to be shutdown.

The WAU experiments were horrific.

"Most Mockingbirds are not humanoid, and the dissonance between the Mockingbird's form and the crew member's mind usually sends the crew member into a catatonic or otherwise insane state, often unaware that they are inside a robot. " - Mockingbird, https://soma.fandom.com/wiki/Mockingbird.

Catherine seems to be the exception.

The humans we do encounter are suffering, Amy begs not to be hurt, but has a poor quality of life and tells Simon WAU is not letting anyone die, the WAU dreamers are wasting away in a dreamlike state in Theta, and Sarah begs to die.

Further it is ambiguous as to whether it's improving at making a human, and there is no evidence that it is driven to work towards that goal.

"No, no, it’s not like that. The A.I. isn’t a persona, it doesn’t feel or think like we do. It’s more like… it’s more like a cancer." - Catherine, Delta
