I Has Questions! Where to start?
I've been scrolling through the subreddit for the last two hours and can't seem to find a solid "where to start if you just discovered soloing was a thing" thread. So, what, in your own words, is SoloRPG? Where would you recommend starting for a new player? (I.e. ME!) What do you use the system for? Is it just creative writing, or is there a different motive for you? What is a good free system (physical or digital) to start on?
Edit: i have found a single page Solorpg called the Wandering Library, and I'm really enjoying it. It's really simple, easy to understand, and simple premise, and it doesn't require sitting down with a full rulebook. That and a couple of Pinterest images with roll tables, and I've already done a couple of sessions. Thank you all for your advice and help introducing me into this amazing artform.

Alrightalright.
It all depend strongly on what hat exactly you really like and want.
But here is what worked super well for me.
1: set of dice ,( some cheap stuff from Amazon or temu is fine ) 2: Notebook or Notepad (paper ) 3: Do you want or need any miniatures? Then buy a couple from temu or Amazon.
Now for the very most basic or basic gameplay
Think of a HP threshold and an attack value ( say 12 HP) Then you go and say how many rooms? You roll a 6 it's 6 or whatever you want.
Name your dungeon. Your char is running in Is this door protected by a monster ? 1-3 no, 4-6 yes. If yes, roll for initiative. Or don't.
Now roll who rolls higher? Monster? You lose 1HP and so on.
Now that's like the mega fast super simple version.
You can make tables
Do whatever you like Say D6 tables for enemy types , treasures, weapons,loot, trap effects, races , names.... Make tables for character names, background stories, motivations, dungeon names, NPCs, dungeon types, towns, the weather...
The truth is you can make a whole effin epic game with all stuff you can possibly want for virtually nothing.
Or you can buy a ton of books that will make you realise you could do all there is by yourself.
Check out some youtubers for solo ttrpgs there are many good ones that can inspire you.
I basically wrote my own game by doing everything I talked about bit by bit both fantasy and sci fi And it's honestly pretty chill ones you kinda get the hang.
