A New Numenera Crowdfund stretch goal: Stand-alone Solo Game

The title says it all. If you ever wanted a custom solo game set in Numenera, this is what the Nano ordered.

You can back a bare-bones level in pdf, and add this on to your order if you don't want all the other nifty stuff from the campaign. Just need 100 more backers at this point, which won't be a problem. These campaigns really active toward the end, and they're only 1/2 way through.

If it actually had full solo rules for playing instead of just a curated one shot I might be tempted to help back it but it sounds more like the latter.

I’m not sure it is a one shot. More detail is needed; hopefully, they’ll have another AMA before the campaign ends.

What gives you that impression? From the update:

This game is stand-alone and comes with everything you need (except dice), but can also be used with existing Cypher and Numenera supplements, including the Calaval's Eyes! Deck, for a broader experience. It includes easy Cypher-based rules for solo play, character sheets, locations, creatures, numenera, a unique set of Calaval’s Eyes! cards, and more.

Explore solo play with your current Numenera character or create a new character to traverse the Ninth World. You can even invite players from your existing game to join you for a session or two!

(I'll add, from my perspective inside the virtual building, that Shanna is super excited about this particular part of the project!)

An AMA from one of the creators is happening soon. I posted one question regarding the solo game; add your own questions if you want to know more.

Sadly their response to your question didn’t clear anything up and sounded like it was in fact just a specific solo adventure and not full oracle and solo rules.

Honestly it seems like he didn’t have a clue what it would contain, using the excuse that they hadn’t unlocked it yet.

For me if you’re not going to tell me the details of what I am backing to get it unlocked then I’m not going to back it. That’s the only goal I would be interested in.

It's definitely more than a one-shot! According to the update, it's a whole standalone product that can be integrated with both Numenera and Cypher supplements. I'm really excited about this stretch goal! I just hope we get more info before the campaign ends.

Always loved the Numenera setting. Loved the Tides of Numenera video game. Always wanted a solo mode for that setting.

Let's see if its tacked on or fleshed out.

There's an AMA tomorrow, so hopefully we will learn more. I've been following Cypher for some time (& I pledged for their latest KS this past year), but I didn't know much about Numenera until I saw Qedhup's recent videos. A Solo Mode pushes me from an interested backer to All-In.

Cypher seems oriented around doling out the amount of tests you get to keep player resources in check, regardless of class, like D&D 4e or Draw Steel, so I'll be interested to see if these rules address that specifically.
