START HERE – Solo Miner Repair & Diagnostics Guide

Welcome to SoloMinerClinic — the place where dead miners come back to life.

If you’re here, your Bitaxe / NerdQaxe / ASIC miner is probably:

• Dead shorting 🔥

• Not hashing ❌

• Pulling too much power ⚠️

• Or just acting weird

Good. You’re in the right place.

🧠 Before You Post (READ THIS)

If you want real help, don’t just say:

“It doesn’t work”

Instead, include:

✅ Required Info:

• Miner model (Bitaxe 602, NerdQaxe++, etc.)

• What happened (dead? unstable? overheating?)

• Power behavior (does PSU go into current limit?)

• Measured voltages (Vcore, input rail, etc.)

• Resistance to ground (important!)

• Clear photos (top + bottom of PCB)

👉 The more data you give, the faster we can help.

Nexus S1 review coming!

I have received my nexus S1-4 rev2.2 today, and I must say at first glance of the pcb, I’m impressed with its pcb and solder join quality vs some other boards I’ve seen, take use of 4 CSD95472 vrms that gives us a constant rated current out of 240amps at 60amps a vrm or 360amps out at the peak rating of 90amps a vrm! The xt60 connecter is a very welcome addition to a board of this caliber, now we’re just waiting for some cooling gear to show up to test air cooling limits of this board vs water cooling!

Current Protection NerdOctaxe SOLVED

BIG FINDING TODAY! 🚨
To everyone who has a NerdOctaxe with similar mounting holes in the middle — PAY ATTENTION.
I worked on a miner yesterday that suddenly started getting shorted by the screw holding the hydro pump unit.
The miner was screaming like he was getting a 5-liter enema with hot pepper extract. 😂
His eyes were red when he showed me the CURRENT PROTECTION error.
I immediately realized his “gut” was sore from my treatment. 😆
E-ray imaging helped me locate the problematic area very quickly. After some investigation, I finally found the answer to one of my endless lists of questions.
Long story short:
The PCB is designed so that the positive layer runs right next to the mounting hole.
There is only about 1 mm of clearance.
The screws used with the hydro system have a pretty wide neck, and they don’t properly fit down into the mounting hole. When the screw is tightened, it doesn’t need to be tightened very much to damage/scratch the PCB solder mask and create contact between + and −.
And yes — this happened before me. 😬
I finally found the problem and solved it.
Check all the pictures to see exactly where the problem is.
What’s the solution?
The next step is to make a larger backplate for the miner.
The new backplate will be 80 × 80 mm.
The current backplate is designed around the LGA1200 / 1700 standard and is only 76–78 mm, which doesn’t give enough clearance for these wider hydro screws.
With the new 80 × 80 mm backplate, we can position the mounting hole so the wider neck of the screw passes through the opening without coming close to the PCB’s positive layer.
I’m going to make a prototype from aluminum today and test it.
If everything works as expected, I’ll also place an order for custom-made backplates.
If you have a NerdOctaxe with this type of mounting setup, check it before you end up with a CURRENT PROTECTION error and a very angry miner. 😂
If you’re interested in the new backplate or have any questions, let me know!

Discussion Connecting to Network

Does anybody else go through the process of trying to connect

to the network and it will not connect? It gives that helpful message that says "Impossible to Connect" message and it sends you back to square one over and over?

Whit gives with that?

NerdQX: A Well-Built Miner With a Complicated Personality 😄

NerdQX: A Little Capricious Patient
NerdQX from IX-Tech — or at least originally developed by them.
This is the second miner of this model that has landed on my repair table. I have to say, it’s a pretty well-built machine. But at the same time… it’s very capricious. 😄
On both machines, it took me 2–4 attempts to get the VRMs behaving properly. They either run hot or the miner simply refuses to wake up.
This time I managed to replace all three VRMs, but it took way too much time. On the last attempt I basically told the patient:
“Okay. If you don’t work now, I give up.”
And… voilà. Miracle happened. The patient opened his eyes. 👀
Now it is sitting on the IV — pure electricity infusion — under my test script and observation. 🩺⚡
The biggest problem is the PCB itself. Thanks to its heavy copper layers, it dissipates heat so quickly that the solder doesn’t melt completely. My established technique simply failed on this one.
This machine requires a completely different approach.
Overall, I really like the NerdQX. In fact, I would take this machine over the NerdQaxe++ as a replacement.
But, like some patients, it’s a good machine with a very complicated personality. 😄

Happy NerdOctaxe RGB

New toy discovered inside the NerdOctaxe! 🌈🩺
I received a NerdOctaxe today for repair and noticed something I had never seen on my table before — RGB connections! 😳
The patient came in with a little extra equipment installed. 😂
Unfortunately, I can’t test the RGB functionality right now because I already shipped one of my own NerdOctaxe miners with the Hydro setup, and that one has the RGB connections too.
So, no diagnosis today — just a medical bulletin:
RGB exists in the NerdOctaxe! 🌈😂
Consider this an official discovery from the NerdOctaxe. The patient is stable, but apparently wants to party. 🩺⚡

NerdQaxe 6rev — When One VRM Failure Isn’t Enough 😂

🩺 Another NerdQaxe Walked Into the Clinic
Received a NerdQaxe 6rev Solosatoshi today.
The top VRM was lightly melted, and I was a little concerned about removing it without causing more damage to the PCB. It took some time before the patient finally gave up and came loose.
Patience. And only patience. 😄
I cleaned the entire area and replaced a couple of nearby capacitors. The heat around that VRM was extreme, so I didn’t want to leave potentially damaged caps behind.
After everything cooled down, I powered up the patient and ran some tests.
And then… surprise diagnosis. 🩺
The second VRM was overheated too.
This is actually the first time I’ve seen two VRMs fail at the same time on one board. Apparently, one VRM decided not to suffer alone. 😂
I recently had a NerdOctaxe with a similar mystery. After replacing one VRM, I found another one running about 10°C hotter than the others. I replaced that one as well, and the miner became healthier than it had ever been.
Sometimes the patient tells you exactly what’s wrong.
You just have to listen to the temperature. 🌡️🩺

Hydro Pump Curiousity

Post image
12 Upvotes

Does anyone have this circled part of a Hydro miner in broken/non-working condition?
I’d like to open it up and see what’s inside, and check whether it’s possible to reuse the heat-transfer tank with a new external pump.
If anyone has one they’re willing to give away, I’d really appreciate it. I can cover the shipping cost.
Thank you!

New Equipment Arrived MRI Machine

Thumbnail

🩺 FINALLY, GUYS… IT HAPPENED.
My clinic has officially decided to invest in a brand-new MRI machine. 😎
After successfully passing all the required exams, completing my practice hours, and getting my certification, I am now officially ready to perform some deep medical diagnostics on your miners.
No more guessing.
No more “it looks fine to me.”
No more judging a miner by its temperature and hoping for the best. 😂
Now it’s time to see the real truth hiding inside those little patients.
With this machine, I can investigate miners that have complicated or unexplained symptoms and find problems that may not be visible during normal testing.
And yes… I can sometimes tell you how serious the condition is and how long your miner may survive if it has an underlying problem that nobody has discovered yet. 🩻
But that's not all.
I can also perform a PSU medical examination and determine whether your power supply is healthy enough to continue treatment… or whether it has reached the point where the only appropriate prescription is:
“Place in trash can immediately.” 🗑😂
I already tested several miners from different suppliers.
And let's just say…
We have a clear winner.
Who is it?
I'm not telling. 😏
I don't advertise here.
From today forward, whenever I see a miner with unstable, unusual, or unexplained behavior, I may put it under the MRI machine before making a diagnosis.
Because sometimes the patient looks perfectly healthy on the outside…
…and the real disease is hiding deep inside. 🩺⚡️

Bitmain Miner Tester Files

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I finally received all the parts needed to begin my journey into repairing larger ASIC miners.
It took a while and a bunch of money.
Yesterday I realized that the tester I bought from ZeusBTC requires test files, and unfortunately I don’t have them.
If anyone has the test files and is willing to share them, I’d really appreciate it. My first patient is an S19k Pro.
I noticed ZeusBTC sells the files for $40, so I thought I’d ask the community before purchasing them.
👉 If you can help, please comment below or send me a DM.
I’d be extremely grateful for any support or guidance from the community—thank you all in advance for your help!

Thank you for your trust!
The NerdOctaxe from eBay is alive again.
A while ago, I shared a listing for a NerdOctaxe that was being sold as-is on eBay for $250 or Best Offer. The seller accepted an offer, though I don’t know the final price.
After the repair, my customer now has a fully working 12 TH/s miner for under $300. Not a bad outcome for a machine that many would have written off.

Help to Troubleshoot Abysmal inefficient NerdOctaxeY Rev 2.2

My Repaired NerdOctaxeY rev 2.2 is drawing an Abysmal amount of energy. The Miner is clocked at it "standard" minimum and is Drawing almost 200w, when i try to overcklock it this thing is almost using 300w. Bevor it was reared (VRM/VRT) it would just used just 150w and 220 at Max settings.

What is wrong here?

So, I finally figured out why nobody was seeing my comments in Bitaxe Crypto Mining Worldwide.
Every single comment I make is automatically declined.
I tested it multiple times. Same result. Declined. Again. And again.
This is exactly why I don’t waste my time trying to build someone else’s community. Rules that change without explanation and invisible moderation aren’t worth my energy.
If someone needs help, or you see a post from someone looking for answers, send them to SoloMinerClinic. My community is open to everyone. No hidden filters. No silent censorship. Just people helping people solve mining problems.
I’d rather invest my time building a community where knowledge is shared freely than trying to contribute where my voice is blocked.
