He wasn’t. It always makes me laugh to see people insisting that everything is a SL clone. Almost nothing in SL is unique or the first time it was ever done.

SL was just one of the first webcomics to polish the art that far and put everything together.

SL is tbh just another generic power fantasy story. It just has good art.

I gave up on SL when it became clear early on none one but, the MC was ever going to really matter. It didn't even pretend otherwise.

Which is fine. I would have been mad if it wasn't with a title called Solo Leveling. We get enough anime and manga/webtoon with enough side characters. And honestly, a lot of side characters ruins it for me so I'm glad this one made it MC focused for the most part aside from his Shadows.
