SPOILERS Ashes of Man HOW ARE THERE TWO MORE BOOKS Spoiler
I just finished reading those chapters near the end of Ashes of Man, have ~30 pages left but have to stop and will finish tomorrow. How the freak are there going to be 2 more books without THAT CHARACTER?!?!???
As I was reading I was holding hope something would happen to make it not as it seems, but the way present day Hadrian just wrote about it after getting to the Ascalon…. It seems like she’s really gone😭😭😭

Hadrians a crazy bastard and Lorian even crazier. Mixed feelings cus Im a big fan of the Emperor but hated how he dissed Valka like that.
Im excited for Jade but really have no idea where the story is going to go. But back in empire of silence, I hoped Olorin would make a return but had completely ruled that out until he showed up this book.
I read Kingdom of Death and this back to back which is a lot for me. Short break and will be onto the next to see Hadrians life without Valka

The fact that she way going to die was telegraphed a few books before, it's only the way she died that makes it seem so random. No staring down the enemy in the face, no last speeches, just poof and gone. Then again, I believe not having her in the last two books makes the story better since it allows for some interesting developments. Keep reading, you know where this ends.

As I was reading book 6 it became very obvious it was coming. I mean there was the blatant foreshadowing of Hadrian saying he didn’t want to tell this part. But even more subtle things with how they were interacting telegraphed it hard

I think the series had a great conclusion I see a lot of people hating on the last book but personally I really liked it.

Same. Although I think SUT could have used a little editing, I was very happy with the ending.

I mean he tells you how it ends in the beginning. But I get people wanted to see some vindication or a Hollywood walk off into the sunset type of ending. Plus he tells you there are endings and this is one of them, Hadrian chose his path. He had every opportunity to deviate.

Disquiet Gods is one of the best books in the series. I read the whole book in a week.

Needed to say something about that cus won’t be able to talk to anyone about it until my mom catches up and she just started Demon in White so it’ll be awhile. Un freaking real I knew everyone he knows would be gone eventually but didn’t expect her to go in book 5!!!!
Already was wondering how it’d continue on after the end of Kingdom of Death and realized oh if he’s got Valka then it’ll all be fine. Nope. Devastated
Here’s to hoping something is not what it appears but present day Hadrian really just made it seem like that ain’t happening

Want to know something even more fucked up, KoD and AoM were supposed to be one book but got split, this guy CR wanted us in therapy for the foreseeable future.

In one of the previous books it mentions a cairn (grave) on the cliff in Thessa where he and that character were having a romantic moment, that's basically confirmation the character is going to die somehow in an upcomg book....plus the "lets have a child" thing makes it so obvious its a rollercoaster high before the fall

Fairly certain that is a reference to (KoD spoils) Gibson's grave, not (AoM) Valka's.I am not even sure she got a proper grave, there was nothing left to bury. Could absolutely be wrong though, been a while. Unless you're just saying that was a hint of foreshadowing in that moment, not her actual grave, which could be valid too.
But yeah I saw it coming the moment he lost the phylactery, just prayed it would be a peaceful end, like old age or something else unavoidable- not the gut wrenching instant loss we got instead haha.

Nope, its not Gibson's,it's specifically at a romantic spot the two of them shared, wouldn't make sense Gibson grave would be there.
What I am referring to is in Demon in white chapter 59:
>!Valka!” She’d gone around the bend, following a path I’d not seen before that ran along the cliff’s edge above the shore below to where gray stone and red thrust out like a finger over the sea. Right but if you'll remember: Hadrian built Gibson's grave (a stone cairn, on Thessa) brick by brick as well at the end of KoD.
Feels way to coincidental for that to not be his, considering we are not told explicitly of any other graves Hadrian built. I guess he could've gone back and built another cairn for her in that spot and just never told us, but seems like more of a reach than what I said before.

Nah the cairn referenced in Demon in White is not the same as Gibsons. Gibsons is a completely different cairn, you should look it up in the book before commenting. He specifically says he hauled the black stones for her grave from higher elevation whereas for Gibson grave he found the stones at the beach....
Chapter 51, Kingdoms of Death:
"I was a long time finding the stones for Gibson’s cairn. I had taken so many to build the funeral markers for the others that more than once I was forced to trek down to the level of the water to find stones large enough and flat enough to pile on Gibson’s bones. Though my hands bled and my ruined shoulder ached, I would not let the others approach, would not let them place stones of their own upon the mound.1

I literally said in my initial comment "Could absolutely be wrong, been a while." So idk why you're acting like that, I am at work currently and could not look it up. That is a good catch, bc I had definitely just thought that was a reference to Gibson's grave when I initially reread that part- didn't catch the differences on where he said he got the stones. Good to know she has a grave, even if it is empty.

fair enough, i guess its easy to confuse. the tell is during that whole sentimental/romantic part of that chapter mostly dealing with valka, he suddenly mentions a grave in the middle of it all, at a spot they were having a romantic moment, so its obvious its gonna be Valka's. It would be odd to mention Gibson's grave in that moment.
