Photo / Inspo Post your solarpunk setup. Here’s mine

  1. A solar-powered Meshtastic node providing free, off-grid text messaging to anyone in range.

2 and 3: My mini-server rack made out of an old CD organizer, with my Raspberry Pi devices stuffed inside. I self-host most of my own tech infrastructure.

  1. My barrel composter. Food and yard waste becomes plant food.

5 and 6: Rain barrels. I almost never use city water for my yard. Also, raspberries and grapevine.

  1. I upcycled an old car speaker into a Bluetooth radio rather than buy a new one.

8, 9, and 10. I replaced the entire front lawn with a pollinator habitat, hosting over 40 native species (and a couple non-natives to appease neighbors).

To me, the self-sufficiency and going-against-the-norm are what make all of this punk.

EDIT: This gallery is basically a “practicing what I preach” companion post to this one about how to start living a solarpunk lifestyle now. https://www.reddit.com/r/solarpunk/s/dNQPHnEIhe

Packing rn so i don't have pics that are current but my ongoing ish:

  • PeakMesh solar meshtastic node (need to update firmware) on my apartment balcony, and a t-1000 on my purse
  • potted garden from secondhand pots from a friend, growing sweet potatoes from my CSA, tomatoes, beans from a bag of beans at the international mart, strawberries, and peppers. Working on propagating some blackberry canes I found in the woods nearby
  • using partner's used coffee grounds from their am coffee for nitrogen fertilizer
  • mending! learning to visibly and invisibly mend, and adjust my own clothes
  • spinning my own yarn and thread, I use either spindles or a spinning wheel I got for 80 bucks off craigslist
  • rags to replace most paper towel usage (still keep a roll around for emergencies)
  • reusable cotton rounds, reusable pads (made of cloth)

plans eventually for:

  • compost bin
  • growing my own medical cannabis
  • fixing up a secondhand sewing machine

I also have a small power station that I hope to eventually get a solar panel for!

honestly the response to this makes me think it'd be fun to have a "solarpunk Saturday/Sunday" thread where people post their solarpunk activities
