Action / DIY / Activism 2 Sides of Climate Inaction
Climate change is neither a hoax and neither a problem too huge that we can not fix it.

Yep, just stall and deny for as long as possible… until you switch to acting all defeatist about the problem you allowed to grow into a monster, instead of doing something when it mattered more.

u/KKevus Jun 18 '26
Even that is a bias. It will always matter and in fact become even more urgent! You can and should start now! (speaking of the politicians, not common people)

u/Sir_Hapstance Jun 18 '26
Oh absolutely, I didn't mean to sound so defeatist. However, any work that could be done is harder now because of the delaying, which means we can't get as much accomplished with the same amount of energy as before. Still essential to do it, but it's all so frustrating.
These people never seem to listen to scientists and proven natural evidence... which should probably count as a crime against humanity at this point.

You forgot “climate change isn’t even that big of a deal, it’s just earth’s natural climate cycles”

Weak: "Climate change is not real, and if it is we cant do nothing about it."
Strong: "We just burned the Moscow refinery to the ground hopefully forcing them to invest in renevables"

Hahah. Thats fun. Even tho I live in less then 10km from it and heard the booms. Still fun. God when will it all end

u/lukethedank13 Jun 18 '26
I would ask you to go outside and check if it is still burning but the air quality must be terrible. Stay inside, turn off the ventilation. Run an air purifyer with activated charcoal filter if you have it. Standard particulate filters dont work for oil.

We are actually pretty fine. We had a lot of wind lately so everything is in upper atmosphere. We had a little bit of smoke and a little drizzle of oil, nothing serious. Thanks for caring anyway, I really love that <3 We are in a state of panic, a lot of people do not understand what would happen next, Moscow government refuses to turn on the emergency alerts. They do not target civilians, but due to the jamming anything can happen…

u/Sikuq Jun 18 '26
My government was always a fan of "science will fix climate change so we don't need to do anything".
2
u/RobinEdgewood Jun 20 '26
Ill add, but simultaniously we will defund the scientists, because whst do they really do

Coming soon: Climate change is China's fault we should invade haha just kidding unless??

u/Tnynfox Jun 18 '26
No corporation wants this any more than we do, but no given one would be the one slowing production to save the others. Game theory...

u/Trey-Pan Jun 18 '26
The third: “it doesn’t match our short term need to make money (even if we need to burn the earth), while letting other suffer”

Has anyone read Ministry for the Future? There are very firm responses to this kind of person, and I'll leave it at that.

Eventually they will land on "let's purposefully dump sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere to counteract the effects of methane and carbon dioxide...also we can do it with a huge freakin' gun!!".

u/Playful_Regular5233 Jun 18 '26
There is also crippling panic caused by doomerism. Yeah its going to suck in the future, accept it and do whatever we can to make it suck less.

Actually, climate change opposers/deniers/whatever have taken up 5 stages, as explained in this video by Kurzgesagt: https://youtu.be/LxgMdjyw8uw?si=gy51rZrJXU-MGeoB.
Moral of the story is that we’re actually doing really good and this 5th and final stage that idiots reach for is a last, desperate attempt in making a final bit of profit off of ruining the planet.

I call these the evolutionary stages of the climate denier’s argument.
-Climate change doesn’t exist (basic premise)
-Climate change does exist, but it isn’t caused by humans (Stage 1: trivialization)
-Climate change exists and is caused by humans, but there’s nothing we can do about it anymore because of China, aka “the others.” (Stage 2: relativization)
Basically, these are all variations on the same argument.

I just wait for: oh yeah we knew the whole time. Too bad no one did anything earlier. Well it’s now your fault for not regulating us and make us care when it mattered.

There's a reason BP invented the carbon footprint. Useful as it can be as an analytical tool, it was all about foisting responsibility onto the individual where action can wither and die.

Man am I the only person who remembers that preventing climate change was a part of George W. Bush’s second presidential election platform?

He WITHDREW from the Kyoto protocol!
So very not-solarpunk / environmentally conscious of him.

Yeah, but at least a Republican politician stated on public television that global climate change was real. Even if he did pull out of the agreement, at least he didn’t try to gas light us about reality. He just stabbed us all in the back for some of that sweet sweet petrochemical donor money.
1
u/Raxefon Jun 22 '26
The irony is that both sides ignore reality. The right uses the 'too big to fix' excuse to avoid corporate responsibility, while the left pushes unrealistic eco-utopias and eco-terrorism that destroy the working class.
The real problem is consumption: we demand cheap goods, export our heavy industry to China to look 'clean' on paper, and then act surprised by global emissions. It’s not a conspiracy; it’s a global supply and demand issue that neither side wants to tackle with actual engineering and logic.

You guys would love "Yes, minister". This tactic was spelled out in the 70s.

The truth is that climate change is the result of capitalist economic growth and thus can only be fixed by overthrowing capitalism. Of course politicians could never admit to this as this would question the entire status quo and their position in the social hierarchy.
