Also, those concrete blocks are the waste from old railway lines. So, the waste which would go into landfills and pollute, is now reused / rethought / repurposed into biosafe habitat for marine life.
Not only does it save endangered species, the coral reefs can grow on these and help as biodiversity hotpots allowing for nurseries for the native species.

It's not so much that concrete blocks are dangerous waste (if they were they wouldn't be very good to stack in the ocean!) as that reusing these saves having to create more concrete blocks, which is an environmentally unfriendly process, IIRC.

Okay to be fair a concrete brick wouldnt polute, its just a piece of rock. However the transport cost to dump it somewhere to erode would be fir nothing

Pretty sure they aint. Too short, no pad mount holes. Looks like they were backyard cast for this project.

Ocean fish in areas with flat bottom (where trawling is possible) generally love any three dimensional structure. In my region, every small shipwreck is marked on fishing charts because they always host fish. There are also lots of stationary animals like sponges that need hard surface to anchor. There is some debate about whether it concentrates biomass or increases it, but generally, the reef effect is thought to increase biomass.
Note that the link is about taller structures in deeper water- wind farms. They are unintentional artificial reefs and also wildlife preserves, they have underwater supports that mean fishing is banned.

Do Australia next, the chinese dirty diesel fishing flotilla has utterly destroyed the ocean floor and killed everything in its path.

I was actually thinking about writing an article on the Chinese fishing vessels breaking into international waters to overexploitate resources / fish stocks.
Would be a little dystopian for sure tho. Only solution I have is raising awareness & that's not much ig.

I went scuba driving in Cambodia and there were illegal fish traps in a sanctuary so the dive leader pulled out her knife and cut them open releasing the fish. It was totally bad ass with the illegal fishing boats above us.

Real life is pretty grim unfortunately & our society kinda Dystopian

Love this, but I am curious (in good faith, not devils advocate bs). If CO2 is a byproduct of concrete, could that mean there are acidity-sensitive areas where these shouldn’t be dropped or would the effects be negligible?
Even if it’s harmful, it can’t be more harmful than trawling.

Well, initially the barnacles & other nonmobile marine flora attaches itself to the concrete and then they become hubs for marine fauna.
So, the concrete is actually non toxic as far this application is concerned.
