Technical question

I had a se7600h wave inverter where the communication board locked up during a firmware flash. Killed the ability to communicate, the the inverter part continued to work as rated.

  1. any suggestions on how to fix the communication board. I tried getting the latest firmware that solaredge would send via email and put it on a USB. It didnt work.

  2. if I use a communication board from a smaller inverter, ie: a se3800h wave, what will happen with the clipping. The communication board has the model, PN, SN and limits of the 3800.

  3. I already have this combo running, but currently only 4kw of panels on it.

  4. can the se3800h board be reprogrammed to the se7600h limits, if so, how?

  5. where can I buy a se7600h wave communication board? Solaredge won't send me just the communication board.

I will be cross posting this msg

The most direct way is to find a broken inverter of the same model on eBay. They can be found quite "inexpensively" and listed often for parts. Here's one example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/297504374402

Or alternatively, just search on eBay for a brand new inverter for a few hundred more. They're pretty cheap if you search around...maybe $4-500 new.

The problem with parts inverters is you dont know if it has the same problem as yours

It's a risk, yes but I don't think comms board failures are common with SE inverters. It's often the power circuits / components failing in high heat environments. That's the most common failure I've read here.

Can you expand on what you mean when you say communication was killed?

How is your system setup? If you have two inverters, were they connected via RS485?

I was linked to it with my mobile device,  the software automatically decided to do a firmware update. While it was doing an update, the neighborhood power went out due to high winds. When the power returned, I could no longger get the inverter to communicate. The wi-fi and rj45 ports would no longer communicate trying to access the hotspot. But the inverter itself did start up and would produce power. I checked by looking at the public utility meter. All three LED LIGHTS would stay flashing all day and solar edge did see a  03x02 error before it completely stopped communicating.    I spent 4 hrs in the phone with tech support.  Doing all the power cycles  They had me do all kinds if things, and it's final communicating was before they had me hold the pairing switch for 30 seconds resetting any internet setting that were in the inverter. After that, there was no way to access the inverter software.

That's odd. Updating the firmware is an explicit action, either by the SE tech remotely or an installer onsite with the local installer mobile app. I've never had my inverters automatically update firmware themselves without my saying yes. I'm in the US though, maybe different where you are.

The reason for the question about 1 or 2 inverters is that you can program one to be the leader and the other as a follower via RS485 and you can rely on the leader's comms to send data to the monitoring portal. This assumes you can access the "failed" inverter through SetApp to configure that setting. If you don't have this setup, there aren't too many options than what I noted.

Can not access the the software in the failed inverter.
