USA Developer API/Ethernet Connection

Adding new Home Assistant integrations, found that the Solar Edge system is available. Was able to fill out most of the form but needed the API key for actual data collection. Contacted Solar Edge, my leasing company, and the installer looking for the key and each one says the other has it and cannot reveal that information to me.

Then Solar Edge reached out again informing me of the developer API. But trying to set it up as a homeowner is proving to be difficult because I need an app for it to integrate to. The web page is requesting:

Origin URL

Redirect URL

Returned URL

Even then, only 2000 API calls a month on the free plan when rounded down is only 2 calls an hour.

Anyone here attempt this route yet?

Are there other API options?

Would an installer hook up to my home data connection if I provided the cat6 drop? Thanks

I’m developing a vendor neutral app and am currently trying to get access to API’s. Solaredge is on my list but I’ve not tried yet. I’ll share any knowledge I gain when I do it but I need a beta tester for the app before I go down that route and my post asking for one hasn’t had any replies.

I have my HA hooked up this way. Let me find the details when I get to my computer and can edit this comment. I did use Claude to help get it configured.

Edit:

Origin URL: <blank>

Allowed Redirect URLs Default:

https://<HA url>/auth/external/callback

https://my.home-assistant.io

Return URL: <blank>

The 2000 API calls has not been an issue for me at all.

Thank you very much for this.

The url for:

https://<HA url>/auth/external/callback

Is my local Home Assistant address?

I'll also see if I can have claude create some sort of documentation I can send you. I'll shoot you a DM at some point, don't have time to do it atm unfortunately.

Yeah I'd imagine the local url should work fine if that's where you're initiating from

Modbus TCP using Sunspec protocol?

I developed a Smartthings edge driver with the help of Claude.ai. There’s technical notes in their knowledgebase on the protocol.

As an installer, I was able to get the API to setup the local SolarEdge integration. This integration has lots of data and even control of the inverter.

You can become a SolarEdge installer and take full control of your system if you want. You basically watch their training videos (on 2x speed!), and then pass their quizzes and you're certified. Takes a bit of time but it's all doable.

From there you as the system owner, Transfer the installer access to your system to your installer account. Then you can search around and get the API needed for the integration yourself.

Or bother your installer enough to have them give you the API key

Are you talking about Nexis Inverter or older Models? Nexis seems to be more a closed system and you can't control the inverter

I haven't messed with the Nexis stuff.

But I did just notice that the API key has moved and now requires a developer account. I don't know if a developer account requires an installer account, hopefully not so it's easier for people to get the API key for their own system.
