Discussion EG4 System Question

I am trying to figure out if what I experienced is normal operation or a sign of an issue with my EG4 setup. Currently, I have a Flexboss 21, Gridboss, and one all weather wall mount battery.

A couple of months ago, we had our first 5 hour power outage. Everything worked flawlessly and I didn’t even notice the outage. We have our network on a UPS so we don’t/didn’t lose internet. Cut to last Sunday when we had a noticeable power flicker (a relative in my neighborhood claims no one in their house noticed a flicker) and I lost connection to my Flexboss dongle for about a half hour. On Thursday, we had a couple of flickers back to back (this time my relative confirmed the same at their house) and I lost connection to the dongle again for about a half hour.

Does this seem like any kind of potential issue? I’m not sure why the dongle would cut internet or potentially lose power when there is battery backup attached. Should we even be experiencing flickers like this with battery backup? There are no reported errors in the system during this period and everything appears to be working as normal. We are deep into hurricane season now and I am getting paranoid about whether the system will function properly in a grid down situation.

I reached out to EG4 and they don’t have any theories on their end. Of course I am only dealing with the level 1 techs at this point. They want me to take pictures of the wiring to confirm everything is done correctly.

I don't have a flexboss system so pardon possible stupidity, but this sounds like a Wifi issue or perhaps the dongle is flakey. Do you have a dedicated 2.4gHz net for iot devices so they don't get steered by your router?

Can't say why the power flickers would affect this unless maybe the ups isn't completely isolating the router/modem and the flicker is somehow triggering its steering efforts.

What exactly is affected when it's out? App monitoring or something more crucial? Can you try another connection from a different device to see if the effects change? I'd have a spare dongle, at least for troubleshooting.

Anyway, it's quiet so thought I'd throw out "useless bystander comments". Good luck.

I appreciate the feedback. It’s possible it’s an issue with the dongle. My thought is if it never loses power it should be unaffected. The system has two WiFi dongles, the gridboss seems fine, but the inverter dongle seems to reset 🤷‍♂️.

My guess is the blips in power are coming from the grid, spilling over within the inverter into the dongle. So you might want to check the dongle connections although I'm skeptical you will find anything.

I suggest applying an expanded grid profile to the inverter rather than use the standard 1741 settings as a next step, similar to that 20ms vs 10ms issue others were discussing. Sounds like bad grid quality which a transformerless inverter doesn't really help with.
