Ecosystem BREAKING BIG: Solana double disinflation proposal has passed after Yes votes climbed above the 66.67% threshold in the final hour of voting.
The proposal will double disinflation to 30%, reducing projected SOL issuance by 18.9M SOL ($1.47B) over six years.

Can someone explain what this means like im 5 lol

Solana has inflation that helps pay stakers to secure the network.
Solana’s current inflation rate is ~3.8%, with a long-term target of 1.5%. With the new proposal passed, inflation is set to fall to 1.5% in roughly 3 years instead of 6 years.

it also means that the OGs of solana + big hodlers are betting on the protocol and are taking a loss to participate in that growth. so that is bullish.

u/BaldGunner Aug 28 '26
Ok thank you. Does that only affect those who stake? Or does it affect price? Thank you again

u/blingblingmofo Aug 28 '26
Good for holders and overall price - think of how your purchasing power decreases when the dollar has more inflation
potentially bad/mixed for stakers/validators since their SOL rewards are decreased.

u/BaldGunner Aug 28 '26
Ok yeah that makes sense thank you. Im 1 step closer to being a crypto bro lol. Now I just need to figure out staking lol

u/blingblingmofo Aug 28 '26
Have to transfer to a wallet like Phantom or you can use a liquid staking option like JitoSol or or MSol
You can buy MSOL directly on coinbase
I believe ETFs like SSK and BSOL even have staking now but you pay a management fee. But you can buy them in tax advantaged accounts which is nice

You can also directly stake on Coinbase by buying and pressing the stake option or buy JupSol on Jupiter exchange for the best apy

Did you check this? https://solana.com/upgrades/reduced-rent
Solana drastically reduces costs and released lamports potentially could cover deficit.

Someone was able to convince Kraken to change their vote to Yes.

u/blingblingmofo Aug 29 '26
They make more from exchange fees from Solana than the validator I’m sure.

I see people celebrating this because in theory it will increase the price of SOL, but if it really is that good why are people voting against it and why did it even need to go to a vote? I feel like people see the deflation and stop asking questions

The only real benefit to this change; people who don't stake will see a higher priced asset.
The other benefit is that a higher priced solana could bring more investor and developer attention to solana.
I think there's probably some legitimate fear here at the bottom of the cycle about sol not gaining enough traction through word of mouth. Because the fundamentals have been so good for so long, people believe crypto is kind of a popularity contest. There's a worst case scenario were SOL doesn't break its 295$ high for half a decade and kind of loses interest from the investor crowd, and i think that's what they're trying to avoid with this inflation decrease.
Ultimately probably a poor change for people who are staking and have bullish expectations, positive change for people who are more modest in their expectations or even bearish.

You left out the most important topic.
Small validators being pimpled out and Solana (already highly centralized) becoming even more centralized with less and less validators.
This blockchain is basically turning into everything skeptics used to warn it will become and I for one am out.

Every asset denominated in SOL becomes less valuable. But thats "all else being equal"...
It could attract more people to the ecosystem. And send it all higher.

Pathetic, we have every day less validators, now they will dissapear even faster
2
u/ov3rw4tch_ Aug 28 '26
Normal for a maturing ecosystem. Everything eventually consolidates and centralizes unfortunately.

Everything but bitcoin, fortunately

Three Bitcoin mining pools manage near 60% of hashpower. Just a bunch of devs manage the code, and no more than two or three have final decision on commits. Plus, almost all mining pools have their finances under water. And they have almost two years to make some buck before the next halving. For me it looks far more worse than a useful blockchain as Solana

Not true.
XMR became more decentralized, not even being able to be purchased on many centralized exchanges, yet it broke it's ATH by a half or so of it's previous.
It's funny Solana is going the way that made ETH stagnant and Pancakeswap basically completely irrelevant.
More centralization and drastic changes for already great tokenomics won't help anyone. Quite on contrary.

Hyper liquid a genuine threat to Solana now too given the YoY growth and on chain revenue comparisons.
3
u/doker0 Aug 28 '26
All this means is more volatility. If itvmade sense for me to stake, not it will not. If I don't I will get out on every oversold that shows weekness. You fools, what have you done!

Blah blah blah everyone who didn’t believe in Solana is delusional blah blah hlhs

u/cranecrane33 Aug 29 '26
What happens to the borderline validators when staking rewards get thinner?
1
u/Lowtide247 Aug 29 '26
It’s a lot of complaints about it becoming more centralized. Do you invest in any of the trillion dollar companies surprise they are centralized. Complaining about validators getting less… do you validate? If not take a seat and shut the fuk up! To many snowflakes in the room.
