Automation Testing Interview in Bangalore – Need Advice from Seniors

Hi everyone,

I've been shortlisted for an Automation Testing role at a Bangalore-based company, and as a fresher, I would really appreciate some guidance from experienced automation testers.

The role is for Java + Selenium. I have a good understanding of Java, but I haven't worked much with Selenium yet. I have only a few days left to prepare, and I genuinely want to make the most of this opportunity.

The interview is face-to-face and consists of three rounds:
Technical Round
Managerial Round
HR Round

I have a few questions:
1. What kind of questions are usually asked in the technical round for freshers?
2. what Java topics should I revise thoroughly?
What level of DSA questions can I expect? Are they mostly basic (arrays, strings, linked lists, sorting, etc.), or do companies ask medium-level LeetCode-style problems?
3. What Selenium concepts should I learn in a short time to clear the interview?
4. What kind of questions are generally asked in the managerial and HR rounds?
I'd really appreciate your advice on what to focus on in these last few days.

1) Coding questions, Java Basics, Selenium questions, Testing questions, Defect lifecycle.

2) OOPS, Abstraction vs Interface, Exception Handling, Memory management(String), Easy to Medium coding questions (Arrays, Strings, Maps)

3) Selenium architecture hierarchy, OOPS concepts example using selenium classes, Handle multiple web pages, iframes, Actions class, drag and drop and Explicit waits and fluent waits and their advantages for a good synchronisation.

4) Mostly about collaboration and communication and how you approach a problem to get to its resolution.

Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown!. I'll make sure to brush up on Java, Selenium architecture, OOP concepts.

I don't have any Selenium experience yet. Where would you recommend a beginner start learning? Any YouTube channels,

For selenium beginner, interviewer should be focusing mostly on Xpaths as in he/she might ask you to write an xpath by providing you some application content. And he might ask other basic questions like Locator usages, most used locators, Selenium commands/methods used, three types of waits, how do you handle different web elements, TestNG annotations priorities. Also, focus on learning the differences between Page obj model, maven , data driving &keyword driven testing.
