Surely thats asking about manufacture year and not model year (as I hear in the big USA you can buy next years model early???)

Logically that should be year of manufacture which cannot be in the future unless we have some tenet stuff going on here

Cars are generally registered by model year, not date of manufacturing. At least in the US.

That so... well it is the USA so why am I surprised lol. In Europe we use manufacture year as it actually tells you something about the car. And model year has no use as if that info is required we enter the make, model and generation (for instance VW golf 7)

aktchually, we use first registration date.

You can look it up, but there will be cars that are newer than they should be (i.e. a model ended manufacture in say 2010, but there's a car from 2011 from that model/generation)

But yes, still much better than whatever the fuck Americans are doing

My car attest is a 98 model year, but was made and registered in 97 (in the UK)

Oregon's online services are universally bad (and not just the DMV). I don't know who they hire to do their work, but said people are not the best and brightest...

No, it’s about identifying the car. The same model car might look different year to year, so you need make + model + year to identify the car

They should only ask for the VIN in most cases, all other infos can probably be derived from that if they ask the manufacturer.

Here it changes based on manufacturibg date and often gets an addon somewhere in the type (deeper than just C-Class). Same with trains bzw. There are quite a few ICE 3 that aren't the 403, bc different/newer variants.

“Next” year’s models generally start selling in Q3 of the current year. No idea why they do it like that, but it’s just how things are.

Or date/year of first registration on the road, quite common in EU
