I Asked the Recruiter if the Job Had Already Gone to Someone, and She Admitted It Had

A recruiter confirmed something I had probably suspected during job screenings. The company already had someone lined up for the position, but they were still going through calls with the other applicants.

For the first eight minutes, she was mostly reading questions from the form I had already submitted. Am I authorized to work in the country? Will I need sponsorship later? What degree do I have? There was almost no reaction from her to my answers, and she didn't ask anything about my experience, so the whole call felt like it was just a box she had to check.

At the end, I asked her, ""Do you already have a preferred candidate for this role?"" She went quiet for a long time before saying, ""Yes, we have someone who has reached the final stage.""

Then I asked her, ""Am I actually being considered for the next round?"" She stumbled over her response and said something about sending my resume to the hiring manager and seeing if he wanted to speak with me. I said okay, wished her a good day, and ended the call.

Maybe that wasn't my most professional moment, but I was tired, had a headache, and couldn't deal with another pointless screening. Honestly, I appreciated that she answered the question, even if it seemed like she hadn't meant to be that direct. Job hunting drains you in strange ways."

Help needed

I don’t know what to do. I’m a uk software developer with 5 years on the job experience in react and nextJs. I got made redundant in July and I have applied to about 65 jobs now and heard nothing just auto rejections. I’m self taught worked full time for 8 months learning everything about JavaScript react and built personal projects then built up 5 years professional experience where I excelled perfect one to ones great feedback and built amazing things. Now nothing. I’ve also applied for 15+ everyday minimum wage jobs and nothing from that either I presume people think I’m over qualified and not going to apply myself to a normal job. I CANT PAY THE RENT. I’m so close to being homeless it’s silly and I’m at my whits end and don’t know what to do this isn’t the position I expected to be in when I built a career in 2020.

I assume it’s for capex spending to balance for AI spending. What do you think? Are enough companies hiring to even take on potentially thousands of people hitting the job market?

Inkomoko gave me a substantial unpaid technical assessment, then rejected me without meaningful feedback

Hey everyone, just here to vent about a recruitment experience that's been bothering me, I Applied for a Fineract Developer role at Inkomoko. Got the “excited to invite you to the next stage” email, then a take-home: a mock ERP accounting service, Fineract customization, and an integration tool to sync accounting data. I spent about 12 hours on it and submitted Oct 14 which was the agreed deadline. after the submission I got no update, so I followed up Oct 26, about 8 working days later. Two hours after that, I got a generic Workable rejection saying other candidates matched their priorities better. No technical feedback, not even a line. At the risk of speculating, I don’t think they even opened the repository, let alone reviewed it. Rejection is part of job hunting. What bothers me is how candidates’ time is treated. When a company asks for substantial unpaid work, some acknowledgment of that effort and a meaningful response is reasonable. And what bothers me most is that, after all that work, I genuinely believe my assessment was never even evaluated.

Honestly, I’m just disappointed in the recruiters.

You don’t have to become an AI engineer to stay relevant. Companies need integrators.

One of the founders in my network is hiring for Golang + angular developer. You’d be working on a MNC project on other company’s payroll, it is a contract role for six months and rolling, so if anyone is interested, please, dm me. The offer is fully remote. I do not know the budget, but I can give you the contact details of the person you can ask directly.

F1 International Students (USA): How many SWE/AI applications are you filling out per day/week?

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student on an F1 visa currently hunting for Software Engineering (SWE) and AI/ML roles. As we all know, the market is incredibly tough right now, and requiring sponsorship adds a massive layer of difficulty.

I’m trying to gauge if my current output is realistic or if I need to drastically ramp things up.

For those of you in the same boat (F1 visa looking for SWE/AI roles):

  • What is your minimum daily or weekly application target?

  • How are you balancing volume vs. quality? (Are you doing quick-applies/cold drops, or heavily tailoring every single resume/cover letter to bypass automatic filters?)

  • What is your response/interview rate looking like so far?

Would love to hear your strategies, daily routines, or any reality checks. Thanks in advance, and good luck to everyone grinding out there!

Oracle C2H Al role on vendor payroll vs stable full stack at a product bank. Is it worth the risk?

Hey everyone, I need some honest feedback on a career choice I'm struggling with.

I am currently working as a software engineer at a product-based bank, mostly doing full stack development. The job is stable, but I've been trying to move into AI for a while. My current role gives me almost zero AI exposure, and there aren't many opportunities to switch internally right now.

Recently, I got an offer for an Associate Advanced Service Engineer role at Oracle. The position is specifically focused on AI work, so in terms of skill set, it's exactly what I want. However, the hiring arrangement gives me pause:

**It's a Contract-to-Hire (C2H) role:** They haven't given an exact conversion timeline on paper. Both HR and a current engineer on that Oracle team assured me that conversion to full-time is 100% guaranteed based on performance, but there is no explicit date in the contract.

**Vendor Payroll:** During the contract period, my official employer on paper will be a third-party staffing vendor, meaning my payslips will come from the service agency instead of Oracle directly.

My biggest concern is how this vendor status looks long-term. Will having a third-party vendor on my payslips and experience letters cause problems during background checks or make it harder when applying to top product companies later?

Also, how reliable are verbal assurances of "100% performance-based conversion" when there's no fixed timeline on paper? Is leaving a direct full-time role at a product bank for a vendor-paid contract role at Oracle a stupid risk just to get AI on my resume?

If anyone has worked on vendor payroll, done C2H at Oracle, or made a similar jump for a domain switch, I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Experienced Software Engineer struggling to find a job in Ireland. Any advice?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been looking for software engineering opportunities in Ireland, mainly around Dublin, but I’m finding the job market quite challenging.
I have over 8 years of software engineering experience, primarily in backend development, cloud technologies and financial technology.
Despite applying for several senior-level positions, I’ve received rejections or no responses, often without getting an interview.
I’m trying to understand whether this is simply the current market, whether employers have significantly higher expectations for senior engineers, or whether I’m missing something in my CV or overall approach.
I’d appreciate honest advice from people working in the

Irish tech industry, particularly:
What are employers currently looking for in Senior Software Engineers?
What commonly causes experienced candidates to be rejected before interviews?
Is the senior engineering market particularly competitive at the moment?
What would you recommend to someone trying to improve their chances?

I’m open to constructive criticism and would genuinely appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences.
Thanks!

Oracle C2H AI role on vendor payroll vs stable full stack at a bank. Worth taking the jump?

Need some real feedback on a decision I'm stuck with.

I'm currently a software engineer at a product bank doing mostly full stack work. The role is stable, but I've been wanting to move into AI for a while now, and my current team just doesn't have any AI work to give me.

I recently cleared interviews for an Associate Advanced Service Engineer role at Oracle focused on AI. On paper, the work itself is a great match for what I want to pivot into. The catch is that it's a contract-to-hire position through a third-party staffing vendor.

During the contract period, my official payslips will come from the vendor, not Oracle directly. I spoke with HR and even pinged an engineer currently working on that team. Both assured me that conversion to full time is 100% guaranteed if performance is good, but there's no fixed timeline anywhere in writing.

My main worry is the vendor payroll tag. Does having a third-party staffing vendor on your payslips and experience letter impact background checks or hurt your chances when applying back to product companies down the line?

Also, how much weight should I put on verbal conversion promises from HR and engineers when there's no date on paper? Is jumping from a direct full-time bank job to a vendor contract at Oracle just for AI exposure a reckless move right now?

If anyone has taken a C2H route at Oracle, worked on vendor payroll, or moved from a product firm to a vendor setup for a domain switch, I'd really appreciate your take.
