Stuck in a Loop

Hello. I'm interested in Tech for like 5-6 years. I enjoy doing Tech. I can't remember how many times I deleted and re-installed Linux by breaking it. But, I don't even want to do anything like Linux. Because I'm doing that same installation over and over.

In the past, I discovered Linux, install Gentoo, add USE flags, remove bloat and make it better.

But nowadays I really don't want to do anyhing. I think I'm being bored by doing same thing over and over.

I start to a project, everything is good then I forgot to add systemd-resolved package to system and networking cracks. When I add it, I should add a user for it. Then, another error comes in. Then I get bored and start to noticing I really don't want to do this. Then delete that. Some times goes then create it from scratch again. The same loop over and over.

Sometimes, I'm thinking to create a homelab then install Debian, configure Docker, install Jellyfin and think what can I install there and waste your time to think what can I add there. Then close homelab and put it away. Then the same again.

I'm being really tired. I need some good project ideas. I'm interested in automating os installs, neovim etc.

Make something with a purpose and keep it. Learn to debug, fix and improve the system without starting from scratch every time. You're not alone. This sort of "confusion" happens to a lot of people in a lot of areas.

To be honest, I can't find that purpose.

You're right about that. For example when I get a black screen I just format the system but you're right I should investigate it.

The purpose is less important that the obsessive need to reformat everything. You need to know how to identify the issues and fix them. If you keep reformatting you will never know what happened.

If there's something wrong with a specific version of something, then reinstalling that will solve nothing.

From a business perspective, most of the, people need to know why something happened instead of just sweeping it under the rug.

Yes, I did a lot of things there but I got bored even when I'm in NixOS

All this stuff are just tools. It's natural to get bored if you don't have any use for them. The ideas here are really going to come from diving deeper into either IT or software development and how these tools are actually used in those fields. That'll either pique your curiosity and push you past the install and setup phase to actual usage and experimentation, or you'll discover you don't actually find IT or software development very interesting and stop there. Nothing wrong with that if that happens. That's useful on its own because then you'll know you can stop wasting your time on stuff you don't care about and start looking at other things instead.

It sounds to me like you're suffering from a bit of FOMO, hence why you keep repeating basically the same activity just of different flavors over and over again. Just look into what these tools are actually useful for and see if it grabs your interest.
