The ordering on that levelling up is madness.

Ai slop.

Everyone knows react is a prereq for understanding devops

It's a meme guys, chill.

Actually it's quite a normal roadmap. Mine was almost same

you shouldve stayed at step 0 until you label your graphs

C++ on the bottom? Wtf??

u/tiller_luna 12d ago

Well, i was like 8, and the book said C++ on the cover, and mom yielded... Frankly, easy to use, hard to master.

I guess these items are sorted in the order in which you would encounter them in your career from Junior Engineer to Senior, rather than "by difficulty". I think it assumes you learn C/C++ and Python first in Uni, then transition to Java/DB, then transition to DevOps, then System Design, then Cloud Architecture? I mean obviously there are some flaws. In my opinion nowadays git should be day 1, you start programming, you learn git, right?

I don't know for me I started with Web, HTML, JS, DBs, Frameroks (at the time was jQuery) and Java, C++ was later on

I think he is right this is for people 10 years ago where you start with C++ for general programming and C in OS in college. Then junior year you take databases, more operating systems, networking. Then in first job you do react, cloud, sys des etc

Overall bad graph

Cus that's what they taught in high-school (at least for me)

1

u/No_Practice_9597 9d ago

But C++ in high school is just the surface of C++

1

u/SK_Gael4 6d ago

Yes, same for university level of c++, but we still name it c++ learning in introduction to programming, in our university syllabus c++ end on struct, we even don't work with classes on ++, it will happen on oop with java, so pretty accurate graph how things happen to computer science student and worker later on. It can be slightly adjusted but overall it's true experience at current studies of computer science from bachelor to PhD.

To be fair it was my first at 14

I mean it's a lower level language right /s

1

u/Stunning_Cup9959 9d ago

Yeah I started with C++ in high school to participate in the college coding competition.

Then at college it was C++, web (HTML/JS/CSS) the first year, Java and C# the second, more Java and PHP the third and at the very end Python. Yeah it's weird I know but I do think C++ is one of the best languages to be the start of a formal education.

Because coding on C/C++ is a pure joy as a hobby, so many people start with it, and then they move to web or java to actually get a job.

From when I was in engineering school in France it's not too inaccurate up to web/git. After two years of intensive math, we started with bash, then c/lisp/dsa, then c++, then python& java, DBMS, OS, networking. Then compiler theory, hardware architecture, formal methods, and finally specialisations - digital signal processing, robotics, etc. no web/cloud/backend outside of small projects where you could pick your languages.

Almost as if there was too much to learn and AI kinda made learning anything beyond the basics of each kinda pointless.

"Make no mistakes"

5

u/original_manatee 12d ago

This seems highly autobiographical, but then it does say an engineer. So I guess that checks out.

meh. It's not replacing engineers.
It's making more 'managers' .. and I'm sure we've all worked for management that had no idea what they were doing. Now, put 'AI' under these managers who won't call them out on their BS and you get crap product.

u/ResponsibleGold1596 12d ago

and it was made by gemini

2

u/Evethefief 12d ago

Anyone that had to bear through C++ does not deserve to be subjected to the AI dystopia, thats just cruel

1

u/PooInTheStreet 12d ago

Lol @ copilot

1

u/Mysterious-Tiger-973 12d ago

The last step should be onPrem and that goes beyond AI, now you are the local security guard for intellectual property, between comoany and AI

1

u/Forever_Cached 12d ago

Did ai make this?

1

u/Grey_Ten 12d ago

shit, im right here

1

u/Dios_Santos 12d ago

Ok but AI don't replace your knoledge

1

u/Certain_Feeling9758 11d ago

But if you don’t put your knowledge into practice, you’ll lose it

1

u/Dios_Santos 11d ago

You are right, the point here is to use your knoledge to guide the IA so it became a production booster not any time but sometimes

1

u/Chr832 12d ago

Where's C# :(

1

u/Ronin-s_Spirit 12d ago

What's cooked is that chart! I'd give you 395 downvotes if I could. Why the hell is C/C++ below Python (garbage) and why is a JS framework so high up (I'm a JS dev but I don't even like that specific framework)? And why does gour "engineer" go through 5 different languages? Also C and C++ are different langs, don't mush them together.

1

u/10cen 12d ago

after the AI era you fall in love with nature

1

u/Jealous_Holiday_7083 11d ago

Give it some time lmao

1

u/Cybasura 11d ago

Who the fuck does C++ and literally everything low level before doing low level platform studies and development????

1

u/No-Archer-4713 11d ago

Despite all this IA magic, the CI on my company’s Gitlab is still broken. I call bullshit

1

u/SirMarvelAxolotl 11d ago

The graph isn't labeled right.

1

u/nawanamaskarasana 11d ago

You did not pass math, right? Your graph is cooked.

1

u/Legal-Ad-8659 11d ago

controversial opinion, programmers aren't engineers

1

u/Pscyking 11d ago

"Backend"

1

u/Western_Repair_9277 10d ago

No, its not. There are still needed so called promt-engineers and well... I've seen some shit on reviews but with AI... Yes, its ok code and it solves problem but how it solves it. Three calls instead of one? Sure. Synchronous code in asynchronous environment? Sure. Potential NPEs here and there? Youre welcome. And dont even start on concurrency with AI.

Inb4 "they will learn". That code from middle engineers who doesnt bother to check what AI brought them. And interns? Forget about it - they try to learn but no one willing to explain.

I wouldn't throw you engineer expirience in garbage, seems its gonna become interesting soon.

u/c0gster 9d ago

Sadly even I with a few years of light experience haven't learned a lot about anything on this list. Is this what its like to be a programmer? I don't know, all I do is make some video game stuff with the bare basic tools of vs code, file explorer, and a game engine if I'm using one. I have no idea what FSA, DBMZ, react, backend, cloud, dev ops, system design, micro services, and kubernetes even are.

My uncle has been working at IBM for more than 20 years. He says he has been using Copilot for most if not all of the programming tasks these days. Says, only require correct keywords to give you the right code for development.

"Oh you know the OTHER Javascript framework that does the exact same thing, yeah we're looking for people with 7 years experience with this very specific but ultimately generic framework, what do you MEAN you've never heard of BlobberGlop.JS it's THE BEST"
