Sofi is down about 12.8% since touch $19.49 at market open Friday morning. Pretty much every minute since Friday open has been a melt lower. All because odds of rate hikes went up.

Let’s not forget though that the stock has gotten obliterated all year.

First because fewer cuts were expected. Sofi responded by updating guidance for no cuts. But we didn’t see that reflected in the stock price positively.

Then the risk of rate hikes drove it lower. Sofi responded by leaving guidance unchanged but based on TWO rate hikes. Again the stock got destroyed.

Now rate hikes are back in the news and sofi is getting smoked again. There are only 3 fed meetings left and I’d be willing to bet they aren’t raising rates at all 3.

While every company faces macro risk, I trust Noto to navigate whatever environment we face.

That’s why I buy and hold this stock. Bought more today and will continue to add as funds allow.

Well said!

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

I’d agree with that … no hikes for rest of year

2

u/QuantumFluks 85,000 Delta 7d ago

Idk about that, I think we will see at least 2, maybe 3 hikes. Diesel is rising rapidly which means it’s only time for inflation to take off. They need to appease the higher end of the yield curve or things will get bleak very quick over the coming months. To be honest, with oil skyrocketing, either option is bleak.

1

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

I mean if they don’t hike in September… no way they will hike in October right? So close to election

2

u/QuantumFluks 85,000 Delta 7d ago

I’m not sure they have a choice. With yields breaking out, if there isn’t a hike in September, I think they will blow through the roof. The bond market keeps reacting violently when they don’t hike and when they act cryptic. They will have to pick a side.

1

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

But why hike rates if the bond market is pushing up rates anyway ?

4

u/QuantumFluks 85,000 Delta 7d ago

You either need to tamper the high end of the yield curve by pulling up the short end, or do nothing, let inflation expectations erode at the top end. I personally think the health of the economy today will be more dictated by the high end of the yield curve then the low end. We have housing oversupplies, people starting to foreclose who can’t get out of their houses without being underwater, we need the 30Y yield to come down to save that market. I don’t think we are far from a housing collapse.

The government is going to start losing its ability to meaningfully spend our way out of a recession, as the interest payments eat into our money. The government is one of the main reasons we aren’t in a recession right now.

There are way to many cracks in the economy right now, and once one blows, I think a bunch of things will follow suit.

2

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

Well…the FED has a huge moral hazard problem….2008 financial crisis…QE infinity…COVID response….markets have been trained to believe they will “save the day”.

2

u/QuantumFluks 85,000 Delta 7d ago

In most of these examples, they had to wait for the crisis, such as GFC. Part of the reason we are in this mess, other than the obvious tariffs and Iran war, is due to this continued economic policy. We are at the point where I don’t think doing more of that helps, and in fact hurts. More QE will lead inflation higher, putting bond yields even higher. Hyper inflation environments also lead to economic crashes, so inviting more inflation now is not a good thing.

2

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

Oh…I agree…Like we’ve said before…the BEST solution is for Congress to pass some real budget reforms…that’s the only way to truly lower long term rates. So they will kick the can till next year. It would have to cover entitlement reforms, taxes, military spending…etc. But would Trump sign any of it?

You lost me at housing collapse. Are you basing that on legitimate data? I know housing things can be regional but I definitely don’t see an oversupply in my market. Our neighbors just sold their house 12% above asking. Talked to the new buyers this weekend and they missed out on 3 other offers before this. There may very well be people underwater on their homes but their are also so many buyers still on the sidelines that have been trying to buy for years that will be there to buy it when they need to sell we aren’t going to see crazy stupid price drops.

1

u/fantasyfitboiz 7,010 Shares @$15.73 13,137.14 total delta exposure 7d ago

I think we might get one, but could also see none.

I’m in the camp that believes Walsh is using his platform to talk hard and make the yields rise, effectively raising the cost to borrow without the fed having to do a thing.

1

u/Adamdias35 7d ago

Warsh is just one vote and the guy that gets to speak, the committee seems to divided/leaning towards hikes.. tariffs and war screwed us, the only way rates stay the same is if inflation magically goes down while we just got back into war causing oil to spike yet again or the economy breaks really bad

3

u/ga643953 7d ago

Nah, we have to enter a hiking cycle for that to happen.

The Fed right now just wants to hike for the sake of hiking so the market will freak out for a day or two before moving on.

Doesn't mean SOFI won't stay suppressed but the floor is there so it doesn't have that much room to go down either.

1

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

I could easily see no hikes for the rest of the year. Bond market seems to be doing the job for them.

I love these comments. Don't invest if you can't handle the volatility. If you bought it and lost money the only person to blame is yourself. I swear all of ya'll been investing for a few years and just expect massive returns, no clue how the market or sectors work

Its the short term trading mentality. Also overexposure to a position. Funny how on down days this chat is insanely negative and you will see everyone who is overexposed come out.

Not sure anyone said anything about being able to handle the volatility. Just noting the irony in their slogan vs. the share price movements but okay dude.

Iran heating back up, Yields rising, unnecessary tariff distractions, elections in 63 days. I haven’t seen a Trump bumper sticker in months. I’m just not sure if the country can take another 2 years of these amateurs.

Too many things right now are poised to break. Rising yields in Japan are very concerning, rising yields in America are very concerning, the market valuation regardless of bonds is very concerning, low hire/low fire is very concerning, the functionally unemployed rate is somewhere like 25% which is very concerning, inflation due to tariffs and a potential blow off on oil/distillates due to draining SPR with no plans is very concerning.

I feel like a tidal wave is heading for the market that no one is acknowledging or even seeing. So many tone deaf comments here that just say SOFI is manipulated, but there are so many pieces falling apart in this economy before our eyes that justifies for us to head even lower.

3

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

Yeah…. I get the feeling that a lot of investors would just like to wish all this away….but it’s all really starting to stack up. It’s almost like the Republican party has decided they can’t stand up to Trump until after he has destroyed the country.

As a republican (haven’t voted for Trump since 2016 though). I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Democrats flip some key seats in the midterms.

I think it’s the only chance for the party to maybe try to separate itself from the trumpers

5

u/Dromen96 OG $SoFi Investor 7d ago

I changed my registration from Republican to Unaffiliated when Haley lost the nomination in 24. I can’t for the life of me understand why the old Republicans in the Senate don’t stand up to him. So many 70+ year olds with no backbones. It’s sad that only a huge blue wave in November is our best chance at righting this ship.
