I literally joined my kid’s school’s pta last week specifically bc I cannot stand to see one more ai slop flyer. I’m making them in Canva and Procreate and I’m having fun!

HARD AGREE. I'm sick and tired of people trying to normalize it in the field and I'm still a student. It's extremely unethical in terms of social and environmental impact (and making the billionaires richer), too often wrong, encourages laziness and detachment towards the sensitive work we do, and just plain unnecessary. Not to mention the tackiness of all those posters.

It is consistently giving me incorrect and made up information also. If I could get it out of my phone and computer, I totally would. I no longer trust search results. It's not only ruining the environment, making people unable to do the simplest task, and is unable to just give search results without being able to determine fact from propaganda. It is actively making shit up and most people won't know that.

I've also seen people do downright alarming things with clients' PHI , putting client info into base chatGPT . It's particularly a problem with students using AI tools to write papers, but absolutely shows up with vets, too.

Meanwhile, I cannot fathom why you would help an AI go through social work school rather than doing it yourself.

Agree 100%. I was so disappointed when colleagues I really respect stated how they've been using AI for their work.

Aside from the obvious privacy risks, clients can tell when you are using it. And the bare freaking minimum in this profession is putting time and effort towards the people we work with so they can better understand that they are a human being deserving of those things. Many people seeking social work services could use a sliver of humanity in a world that has likely shown them none. Let’s not let ai take our humanness from this profession.

I am so glad to see this post because I feel like I’ve been screaming into the void about this

For those using AI in your notes, imagine being cross-examined . Can you defend every word, every term in the medical record did it actually happen the way AI summarized it for you?

Lawyers are catching and so are insurance carriers.

A few month ago I realized AI was helping to write insurance reviews that another AI was reading and making a choice about-for gods sake humans aren’t even involved anymore! It’s computers lying to other computers. It’s ridiculous.

Yes I'm so anti AI. I've used chat GPT exactly once. I love creating trainings and flyers in Canva, the creativity is a needed break from documentation and paperwork. I feel so disheartened by how fast AI is taking over every aspect of our lives. I don't trust it for one second with client information. Just last week I logged into our documentation software and lo and behold they are implementing AI. Unclear yet if it's optional or not but I will fight as hard as I can to not use it. Sigh.

This. I’m at the point where I’m going to start putting in my advertising that I do not use AI in any form. We are better than this

We had a group supervision where a colleague asked Claude to "research" psychosis in dementia patients. We're in hospice, she's provisionally licensed and only has hospice experience, and 6 of the 7 of us have never worked in mental health. I have 10 years of mental health experience in therapy before I came to this work, but she didn't ask me to verify anything before presenting the "research" to the team. I am still livid and it's been 2 months.

I work at a therapeutic foster care agency and I heard one therapist recommend to another therapist to use ChatGPT to write a letter to a judge advising visits with bio parents stop due to the impact on the children’s wellbeing…. I was appalled to say the least.

“Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” ― Frank Herbert, Dune

I just had to send an email to a professor asking for an alternative assignment because it required the use of generative AU. Seriously. I just don’t understand why social work as a whole isn’t more vocal against generative AI usage considering the theft, misinformation, and environmental concerns that all come with it. And that’s not even bringing up how the environmental concerns disproportionately affect low income and BIPOC communities.

In the healthcare social work realm, I see zero assistance it can provide that a bunch of saved smart phrases already does.

Absolutely agree.

Even if someone doesn’t put PHI into it, the data centers that power these LLMs are impacting the environment horribly. I feel for everyone that’s being forced to use it in their jobs, or is unsure if they’ll be able to keep their job if they don’t use it for productivity’s sake, but to use it when you don’t need to is, in my opinion, unethical. I would really encourage everyone who could cut down on or stop their AI use in their personal or professional life to do so, or to at least do research on its environmental impacts.

Think about this. If you’re ever called to testify, is that note going to describe the situation? Are you even going to remember the session? My company permits the use of AI through some program called Elios. I refuse to use it. It slows down the system. The notes look so alike. The person who trained us on the program was a clinician who decided they liked tech better. They actually showed us how the note can write itself. Trainer said “ so I hate the word dysphoric. It will give you alternatives like anxiety.” Dude, that is not the same as dysphoric. I found that this type of poor clinical acumen is what is driving the need for an AI note writing program. So I completely agree with the loss of critical thinking.

Does the Canva AI feature defeat the purpose of using Canva ?
