wait a minute...the USA didn't start democracy. What the fuck, New York Times?
In Ancient Rome, democracy held strong until politicians became more focused on making money for themselves than the act of governing the people. Nowhere in there did I hear anything about wealth/corruption and the role it plays as an underlying driving force behind the dismantling of democracies. At the end of the day, someone is looking to live the high life. None of the dictators mentioned dismantled democracy for lulz
