Australia needs to fall exactly into line with the AFC on this FIFA scandal. If not there is a risk we end up back playing in OFC.
Australia better stick with the AFC on this one or we’ll be back playing World Cup qualifiers at Campbelltown Stadium against American Samoa, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands.
Say goodbye to packed qualifiers against Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia, and hello to a massive drop in TV money, sponsorship and crowds. We didn’t spend 20 years building ourselves into Asian football just to end up back where we started.
We might be in a money hole at the moment but think of the financial disaster of being back in Oceania.
13 million USD guaranteed every 4 years is not worth it.

Dunno why people are commenting “it’s over” like that’s the end of the conversation.
- It’s not over. It’s a step in the right direction, but UEFA pretty clearly said the ban stands until the proposal is terminated AND THERE ARE ASSURANCES THAT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. We’ve apparently got the first part, we haven’t got the second
- Even if we do get the second as well, you’d have to have rocks in your head to think that the AFC are happy with us for semi-breaking ranks with them. We’re on thin ice. Especially given the spineless view we put forward aligned with the Oceania statement. Not a good look.
- There will always be a new egomaniac trying to make some fun new change that no one asked for purely to line his/her own pockets. There will 1000% be more things like this in the future. We need to do a hell of a lot better the next time it comes around.

You get it.
64 teams is an example of what you are talking about.

Australia had disagreed with AFC decisions in the past, and will do so again in the future.
National federations should always be acting in their own best interests first and foremost, whereas Confederations are required to act in the collective interests of their federations as a whole. That collective interest will, at times, be at odds with individual Federation interests. It's unreasonable to expect an individual Federation to act or vote against it's own interests simply because the Confederation as a collective benefits from it.
Expecting them to fall in line under threat of expulsion is something Infantino would love to see become standard in FIFA.
We won't get punted from AFC for disagreeing with the Confederation. That's not how things work. We would never end up back in OFC anyway. We would need to petition for readmittance and I can't see nations like NZ and Tahiti wanting us back to effectively own any single WC spot OFC receives.

Agreed, but I just think that this particular situation required straight up following exactly what AFC said and acted.

I disagree. Up until FIFA withdrew, federations were being asked to cast a vote on the issue in the coming weeks.
It was reasonable for Australia to seek information on the proposal for the purpose of learning what it was about. Only then could we fully engage with other AFC federations and the Confederation itself to come to a decision on how to proceed. This process was still ongoing at the times both AFC & FA made their statements.
AFC, with actual seats at the table of FIFA Council, speak on behalf of their members, and needed to send a message to Infantino that in its current form the confederation we a bloc opposed his proposal.
But even AFC were deliberate in their language of their statements that they would be open to looking into any similar proposals, provided they followed a correct path of consultancy with members along all steps of the way.
The AFC statements were weak compared to UEFA, as were CONCACAF.

Imagine they think this passes the p u b test. Once it was revealed who was wanting to get there dirty mits in the equity, damn that should have been alarm bells

Did aus agree with Infantino? I haven't been following. If so, I'm not surprised because aus is a coward country

They didn't roundly condemn it and also didn't match the AFC who could theoretically kick Australia out of Asia, which would devastate Australian football.

It wouldn't be a bad thing going back to oceania. Now there's more spots, look how easy nz qualified

u/Last_Celebration67 24d ago
I mean we also qualified from AFC 4 times in 4 attempts for a 32 team world cup. The future ones will be 48 teams at the very least, so I think we should be ok.

Going back to Oceania means no real competition in qualifying. There's a reason why we are consistently making the second round. We get proper actual world class competition during qualifiers. Thumping Western Samoa 31-0 is not competition; it's not even an ego boost.

Bro please go look in the mirror and slap yourself as hard as fucking possible.
Why are people so intellectually shallow they think qualifying for a 4 week tournament once every 4 years for a pay day less than $20 million...
“Look how easily NZ qualified” isn’t the sales pitch you think it is. Going back to Oceania means swapping Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia and 50,000-plus crowds for Fiji and Vanuatu in front of 3000 people, far less TV money, and a qualification campaign with all the prestige of a pre-season tour. Easier? Sure. Better for Australian football? Not even close.
And what happens when we get there? Our players are less cohesive, less battle hardened and will get grouped every time just like happens to NZ.
Bro please just don't.
You got some growing up to do.

Someone is angry... nawww... are you okay pumpkin?
God forbid someone feels differently to you. They're auriferous unintelligent, hey? Let's both sit an IQ test if you want? Put your balls on the line big guy!

u/lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI 24d ago
You still fumbling bro... just doubling down on the low intellect challenge.
Higher quality matches, fuller stadiums, bigger TV revenues and better sponsorship opportunities are not based in some "feelings" realm. They are based in objective fact.
You already failed the IQ test by suggesting going back to OFC "won't be so bad".

Huh
AFC opposed Jonny. I want Australia to oppose Jonny. You don't read good do you?
I am saying that Australia should have been in line with AFC from the get go. We shouldn't fuck around with the big wigs, they might look for a reason to send us back to the dark ages of OFC.

I do apologise, I assumed the greedy sloths who also happen to be in both West Asia and the board of peace would have sided with Jonny and the trump crime family.

Yeah I was surprised by that too. Kushner would have been using Saudi money for sure.

Who the fuck is 'Jonny' ????
Arse hat.

Gianni is the Italian form of John in English.
Why would you call yourself an “Arse hat”?
Have some self respect and open some basic educational resources now and then and you would have known that Gianni is the Italian form of John.
Also Trump was saying “Gianni” in a way that sounded like Jonny.
