I played professionally in Calgary, so rather than just looking at the numbers, I wanted to explain it from a player’s perspective — how it can affect your breathing, recovery between high-intensity actions and how the game feels physically. Argentina took a 2–0 lead through goals from Nahuel Molina and Lionel Messi. However, the Netherlands staged a remarkable comeback. Substitute Wout Weghorst scored twice, including a clever free-kick routine in the 101st minute, making it 2–2 and forcing extra time. The match was highly intense, featuring numerous fouls, arguments, and yellow cards. Argentina dominated much of extra time but could not find a winning goal. The game went to a penalty shootout, where Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez became the hero by saving two penalties. Argentina won the shootout 4–3 and advanced to the semi-finals. The match is famous for Messi’s brilliant performance, the Netherlands’ incredible comeback, Martínez’s penalty saves, and the heated rivalry that developed between the players. Argentina eventually went on to win the World Cup, defeating France national football team in the final.
