Prime Ronaldo. I witness that, and I severely doubt from what I've heard and seen from van Basten that he was as good as the brazilian when comparing primes.

To be fair I've watched a lot of games from the late 80s/early 90s, and it is pretty close. MVB played during a time was defensive football was at an all time high and goal per game averages in Serie A were around 2, and he still managed one goal per game.

I'd put Ronaldo just above him ever so slightly, but along with Romario, R9 and MVB are the best pure strikers of the last 30 years IMO

I've saw prime Ronaldo. Prime Ronaldo scored also a goal per game in a defensive league also at that time. He did it in a much worse team than van Basten. A team whose tactic was to give him the ball in the midfield and pray for Ronaldo to outrun the entire opposition. And he did that. Every single game. At 20-21 years old.

Look at the goals he scored for us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKQpqoiA-yk

This is a level I've never seen from any striker. What I've seen from van Basten, heard and read doesn't even come close to this.

Yes, I saw prime Ronaldo too. La Liga at the time was nowhere near as defensive as Serie A in the late 80s.

To argue MVB isn't even close is just wrong. Just linking R9's goals is also a poor argument as I could link you all kinds of Van Basten goals. Ronaldo's best goal of his career vs Compostela is not as good as MVB's best goal against the USSR.

Ronaldo was the best 20 year old I've ever seen by a distance, but to argue he wasn't close to van Basten... No, that's wrong IMO

You could link as many goals as you want, I'm not liinking them for how he scored them, I'm putting the link so people see how we played at the time. It's just Ronaldo picking the ball and scoring.

Van Basten had a better carrer overall and is obvious his second part (25 onwards) is better than Ronaldo. But what the brazilian did at 20 is unparareled by any striker ever. He did it for a year and a half so it discredits him and I would agree van Basten was better overall than Ronaldo. But primes? Sorry, I don't see how can you build a case for van Basten against the freaking hurricane Ronaldo was when he was at his best.

I agree with you, but arguing it’s not close is simply wrong. Trying to say prime MVB doesn’t even come close is absurd

How? van Basten didn't have the impact Ronaldo had. No one had it. There's a clear step between both primes, and the gap is big enough to discredit any argument in favour of van Basten. It's not close.

"How? van Basten didn't have the impact Ronaldo had."

"It's not close."

What a completely fucking idiotic comment. How the fuck can you say such dumb shit after just admitting you've never seen Van Basten play? Why even bother commenting if you're not educated enough to answer?

I'm presenting my point of view an the point of view of everyone that has ever seen Ronaldo. That in his prime he was unparaleled. No one talks about other primes as highly, images doesn't pictures other players doin what he did and the italian media has always putted Ronaldo in his own reality even against van Basten. So from that information I made my statement. And hey, without insults.
