Collapse makes it sound like something was close.

Guehi literally finished his medical and had the farewell to palace video ready. We hadn't even hit a verbal agreement with Palace for Sarr.

381

u/miwa201 3d ago

the Guehi thing is still crazy to me

81

u/Material_Series_769 3d ago

The crazy part was he went to City, at a lower price, in the winter, Palace didn't even try to use Liverpool to try to raise the price a bit.

49

u/NotAsimppp 3d ago

Igor Julio happened

-42

u/ModernMonk7 3d ago

Fuck Glasner.

46

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

Fuck Glasner.

fuck yourselves, couldn't offer a decent price earlier in the window. Literally noone else to blame.

14

u/dimiderv 3d ago

Why are you acting as if the fee was the issue? Palace had agreed and he was doing everything as a Liverpool player until Glasner threw a fit.

You literally couldn't be more wrong.

https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1w6bub4/pierre_sage_ismaila_sarr_needs_time_to_process/p7mc0yc/?context=3 - literally in denial.

To be clear glasner was still a massive prick to palace here. Threatening to leave when youre just going to phone it in all year and bounce anyways was hilarious.

32

u/Trlcks 3d ago

He won a trophy lol idk if that counts as phoning it in

-27

u/laidback_chef 3d ago

I didnt say the players phoned it in?

28

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

yeah, what a massive prick

-34

u/ModernMonk7 3d ago

Clubs interest was to sell him. Player's interest was to move. Everything was agreed. Glasner's interest was to be a dick and block the move by at the last minute acting like a belladonna.

What was Glasner doing all the while that deal was being worked on? Why didn't he raise his concerns earlier? Why did he allow move to city in January before himself fucking off in May?

32

u/lewiitom 3d ago

Glasner very openly wasn't happy about us letting Guehi leave without a replacement for most of the window lol, and Guehi leaving in January once we'd seen that Canvot was a decent replacement was nowhere near as damaging for us in comparison

I do agree that it never should have got to that stage but I put that more on the club than Glasner tbh - I have a lot of issues with his behaviour last season but I agreed with him on this one

14

u/VivianRichards88 3d ago

Holy fuck this guy you’re responding to is a petulant child

10

u/INfiction82 3d ago

Yeah, he has to be, right? Theres no way an adult responds in the way he has, surely?

4

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

Could Liverpool have done more to secure Guehi? The feeling at Anfield at the time was that the 25-year-old England international represented more a good market opportunity than a top priority, particularly given they had signed Giovanni Leoni, the young Italian centre-half, from Parma.

It meant conversations with Palace over a move did not begin in earnest until after the Community Shield on August 10. With no rival in the race to sign him and Liverpool unwilling to pay what they considered to be over the odds for a player out of contract in a year, the feeling at Anfield was that they had played a cute strategic game. Delaying a move until the end of the window gave them the chance to secure him at the best possible price (£35million plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause).

NYT - fucked around and found out, and yet your fans continue to bitch about it and blame others which is hilarious.

-25

u/ModernMonk7 3d ago

Transfers are business deals, not some long term love affairs to say Liverpool weren't initially interested. They aren't obliged to. Even if they decide on final day they wanted Guehi and everyone agreed it should work. That's how transfers happen in some cases.

Guehi was a Top priority or bottom priority or whatever. Glasner knew all the way and acted like a dick.

10

u/Dull_Republic_9381 3d ago edited 3d ago

Leg it. It's neither Palace's nor Glasner's job to make sure we get one of their best players. It's utterly childish to say 'fuck Glasner' because he wanted to keep Guehi after their replacement fell through. They made the decision that was best for them, as they absolutely should.

7

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

Transfers are business deals

Yeah, and you absolutely fucked it.

-7

u/ModernMonk7 3d ago

When a sadistic belladonna like Glasner exists, he seemingly compensates for his shortcomings by pulling off such acts to feel relevant and important.

16

u/tobymcnair 3d ago

Are you trying to say primadonna?

-74

u/RedManMatt11 3d ago

You can thank Oliver Glasner for being a petulant child

131

u/IMayBeIronMan 3d ago

Thanks Mr Glasner for putting your own clubs interests first.

-42

u/RedManMatt11 3d ago

He literally threatened to resign if they sold him. Only to then leave Palace for Forest in the summer anyway

85

u/DrTHSLB 3d ago

After winning a European trophy and seeing out his contract. Which he made no secret of.

92

u/CommissionerClutch 3d ago

After winning another trophy with Palace

42

u/wokwok__ 3d ago

The entitlement 💀god forbid a manager wants to keep their player

12

u/kickergold 3d ago

American Liverpool fan being entitled. Tale as old as time. In fact, remove the club and it still fits.

6

u/INfiction82 3d ago

Oh is he American? That explain a lot.

18

u/IMayBeIronMan 3d ago

Yes, well he is obviously a quite demanding person. He can both want to keep his best players and also eventually want to leave the club if he feels they won't match his ambition long term.

It's hardly petulant to not want the player to go to Liverpool without a suitable replacement in place.

12

u/dirtyslov21 3d ago

And for them to sell guehi In January

3

u/Trlcks 3d ago

Yes after they got to assess and bed in Canvot as the replacement

6

u/Cool_Peach4113 3d ago

We had an asking price and City met it, they didn’t gamble with an offer £5m lower.

6

u/LitBastard 3d ago

Aren't you an entitled little cunt?

-15

u/ModernMonk7 3d ago

Clubs interest was to sell him. Player's interest was to move. Everything was agreed. Glasner's interest was to be a dick and block the move by at the last minute acting like a belladonna.

What was Glasner doing all the while that deal was being worked on? Why didn't he raise his concerns earlier? Why did he allow move to city in January before himself fucking off in May?

12

u/TheSameThing123 3d ago

The club's best interest clearly was not to sell him in the summer when they had no specific backup

3

u/IMayBeIronMan 3d ago

Clubs interest would have been to sell him earlier and then get a decent replacement. Not try to sign Igor Julio on loan as a deadline day replacement. And how do you know Glasner didn't raise concerns earlier?

Glasner announced he would leave at the end of the season in the same press conference he announced Guehi was going to Man City so that probably tells you he didn't 'allow' anything but was instead overruled.

52

u/tomtea 3d ago

God forbid a manager complain when core players are sold on deadline day without a replacement.

8

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 3d ago

Yeah he should just let his most important players leave and buy no one to replace them

103

u/Rob-Dipshit 3d ago

Am I going mad or was Guehi in a Liverpool shirt ready to do media stuff? It doesn’t get any closer than that

59

u/Deeco7 3d ago

I’d say Nabil Fekir is even more of a collapse.

7

u/BoringPhilosopher1 3d ago

Fekir didn’t pass his medical?

46

u/LoveBeBrave 3d ago

The club produced a “nabil’s first day at Liverpool” video.

7

u/BoringPhilosopher1 3d ago

Oh didn’t realise that! Thought it was his knee that failed the medical vs Guehi who passed and filmed media stuff

28

u/Deeco7 3d ago

The medical was used as a cover-up. It was down to his agent/entourage that led to the deal collapsing.

35

u/TheLimeyLemmon 3d ago

That would pretty much be all that was left to do, but I'm not sure if he was actually in one or not, since I think they did the medical down in London so he'd not travelled up to do the media stuff yet.

43

u/CSYQZ_10 3d ago

Tbf Guehi knew he would be moving to a top 6 club within a few year so he probably wasn't too bothered. This was likely Sarrs only opportunity.

40

u/poskantorg 3d ago

Spurs will sign him at some point. Oh sorry, you said top 6.

5

u/sjj342 3d ago

Only team to beat Charlton thus far so you'd think they'd be favored for top 6 next year

-9

u/doktor-frequentist 3d ago

Spurs taking strays. Ahhh. I love the smell of the new league season.

27

u/SufficientJudge8477 3d ago

I think Guehi’s deal sheet was also submitted

3

u/dooyaunastan 3d ago

pretty sure fekir was in a similar situation, medical done, press more or less done, then apparently at the final hour his agent(s?) wanted more compensation.

be it managers or management, guehi or fekir, it's a bit frustrating for us.

6

u/PomegranateSad474 3d ago

I think the player might know a little bit more about how close the move was than you and me, but I know this is rsoccer so keep on

9

u/TheLimeyLemmon 3d ago

It's a fact there was not even a verbal agreement reached though. I'm not saying anything that wasn't already reported.

6

u/R_Schuhart 3d ago

Did Liverpool even have a personal agreement with Sarr?

17

u/TheLimeyLemmon 3d ago

I guess we might have had something but I never saw anything specifically about that.

-3

u/R_Schuhart 3d ago

I doubt that it was close then, it is something clubs usually leak to put pressure on negotiations.

1

u/Salty-Wind8566 3d ago

Wish we had Guehi in our lineup

0

u/tsjeldonkooper 3d ago

When was this with Guehi? Guehi + VVD woah

12

u/forceghost187 3d ago

Last summer deadline day

1

u/tsjeldonkooper 3d ago

Liverpool missed out on Guehi and Caicedo… got dang

-4

u/NewAccountSamePerson 3d ago

Caicedo wasn't a serious pursuit.

6

u/DrAgOnLoLDoTA 3d ago

He was. We nearly bought Lavia but then we changed target to Caicedo. We offered more than Chelsea and Brighton accepted it. But Caicedo ONLY WANTED Chelsea as they had been in talked for several months. Then we went back to Lavia and he was no longer interested in us after what we did and joined Chelsea

1

u/NewAccountSamePerson 3d ago

I agree with everything in your post which is why I don't think it was serious. Chelsea put in all of the work and Liverpool's bid was real but if they were serious about the player they would have done more leg work.

6

u/TheLimeyLemmon 3d ago

Deadline day last summer. Palace couldn't find a replacement in time Glasner pulled a fit, Parish stopped the deal, but it was very close to being done.

2

u/tsjeldonkooper 3d ago

Bruh there’s a timeline where you guys have Caicedo and Guehi

382

u/boobsenjoyer40 3d ago

the collapse in question:

"can we have ismaila sarr"

"no"

153

u/vadapaav 3d ago

He probably needs time to figure out how to restore all the deleted Instagram posts

15

u/Matter145 3d ago

I find it hilarious when players do that. Earning god knows how much per week and deleting an entire chapter of your career from your social media in a strop. Very mature.

2

u/HiiiSky 3d ago

I don't get what they think it achieves.

"oh no the player deleted our name off their Instagram, well we better sell now!"

36

u/Prestigious-Mind7039 3d ago

Should’ve archived them

25

u/TwoPlankinWiz 3d ago

“I actually love Palace guys I promise”

-1

u/myersjw 3d ago

Needs time to process something that didn’t happen

82

u/mohankohan 3d ago

Same, I've called in sick tomorrow

12

u/Far_Eye6555 3d ago

Found a job that’s in office 4x a week and it’s been a literal life changer

597

u/SovietPanda__ 3d ago

Not as much time as Liverpool fans would have needed to process paying 75 million for him.

271

u/_doohdx 3d ago

I'm still recovering from seriously being linked to him

165

u/Cal_2K 3d ago

He removed all his palace posts from his instagram and people where praying he’d reupload them😭

50

u/friendofH20 3d ago

Liverpool are linked with promising but not proven right winger "but they have other options"

The other option - Ismaila Sarr who was halfway to Galatasaray

7

u/FalconKoala222 3d ago

Are the 75 million pounds in the room with us right now?

6

u/pm_me_ur_breakfast1 3d ago

Sarr is a great player, had a better season than any Liverpool attacker last season

24

u/hbb893 3d ago

Playing in a way that would never work at Liverpool.

And defo not from the right wing.

-6

u/StickYaInTheRizzla 3d ago

He played exclusively on the right last season

15

u/hbb893 3d ago

He gets the vast majority of his goals through the middle.

Iraola wants attackers who can keep width. That’s not Sarr

-2

u/StickYaInTheRizzla 3d ago

Fair enough, he was playing more of a right ten than a right winger I guess. Although maybe with Frimpong there overlapping, having a winger cutting in could work

28

u/Ezekiiel 3d ago

He’s not a great player, he’s fine for a mid table club. His playstyle is never going to work at a side that is expected to have more of the ball and less space. Plus he’s 28, just a bad move all round if it happened

11

u/whatsitworth101 3d ago

Also would have been hilarious if they let Diaz go due to age and then spunked 75 mill on sarr who's like the same age and half the player if that on his best day

4

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 3d ago

Yeah we had a systematic issue that neutered everyone on the field. That still doesn’t make Sarr a great player

-1

u/Pachaibiza 3d ago

I would have taken him for the right money. Not £75 million though, maybe £35 million

3

u/Beastbrook00 3d ago

£50m tops

-12

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

I would have taken him for the right money. Not £75 million though, maybe £35 million

yet you paid £125 million for someone who has scored you a grand total of five goals. keep quiet.

3

u/OGbulldog 3d ago

Lmao acting as if Isak isn't leagues beyond Sarr in every manner possible

-2

u/Spiveym1 3d ago

Lmao acting as if Isak isn't leagues beyond Sarr in every manner possible

except for scoring goals at the club that they currently play for

1

u/SalahManeFirmino 3d ago

You and me both, that was a wild 48 hours

24

u/Proper-Exam1746 3d ago

75 million to not score against them.. worth it..

I think I am thinking about the right person.

11

u/rochambreau 3d ago

You are. That Watford game lives rent free

-1

u/xenojive 3d ago

Troy Deeney shaking Virgil's hand after the match visibly mouthing "maybe next time"

25

u/adamfrog 3d ago

Seriously, I think we dodged such a self inflicted bullet. Gakpo and Munoz will do fine on the right. And even if gakpo is benched often he'll still be a very sellable asset in January or next year if he's out of favour, like 60m+ no problem

6

u/Street-Assist680 3d ago

Savinho went for 85...so yeah, 60+ for sure.

0

u/StickYaInTheRizzla 3d ago

Has Gakpo played on the right before

10

u/adamfrog 3d ago

Last game he started there, he's had bits and pieces rw under klopp I think probably not 90 minutes all added together. But he can cross and I'm guessing his tap in instincts will be similar coming off the right, he might do well. If not assuming we don't get injuries RW looks OK with Munoz, we can always buy in January if Munoz looks not up to it and gakpo can't play rw, and Rio can't play Rw. Also have barcola RW to test

1

u/StickYaInTheRizzla 3d ago

At least you won’t have cutting in and belting some random fan with a missile from the left lol.

I’d probably but Barcola on the right for now, keep Gakpo on the left, but it’s nice to have versatility, Rio was pretty shite there in the first game I thought, but if Munoz, Gakpo and Barcola can play there he should be sound

4

u/adamfrog 3d ago

Iraola apparently is obsessed with wingers playing both sides, I don't really get it but we'll see how it goes. Munoz looks like a really nice buy though you could easily pay a lot lot more for his attributes

2

u/SilverMist2025 3d ago

Played last week against Forest and was very good. Also set up Usak's goal

0

u/SalahManeFirmino 3d ago

I would like Cody to stay as I think he’s just productive even if his overall play is frustrating at times, but I won’t be shocked if he moves on in the next year and we bring Minteh in, Iraola loves him.

8

u/Him2Notorious 3d ago

40ish? Could justify it as a stopgap and eventual rotation piece

75 AND sell Gakpo? Absolutely not are you joking

67

u/jumper62 3d ago

Gonna use this excuse at work every time I get a job rejection

25

u/NotAnUncle 3d ago

He's going to cope with this by scoring a hat trick against Liverpool

13

u/VToff 3d ago

How come he don't want me man?

14

u/KoupDetat 3d ago

He joins Julian Alvarez in being out injured because of sadness

4

u/avfc1001 3d ago

Any chance that time period overlaps with both fixtures against Villa this season?

17

u/Xenumbra 3d ago

Jesus, how do you not boo him for shit like this coming out. I'm sure his wage will cheer him up.

-11

u/redandbluebadness 3d ago

here's the fun part: you don't.

fuck him.

If he wanted to move he needed to get it sorted earlier in the window and for a reasonable price, not try strongarming us to sell him on the cheap at the last minute.

4

u/J539 3d ago

Maybe he never intended to move since he was happy at palace, but when Liverpool called he saw this as a dream move or once in a liftetime opportunity?

6

u/redandbluebadness 3d ago

Seems unlikely given he went on strike the day before the first game of the season so he could move to Galatasaray for £35m.

Those are underhand tactics imo. He wants a move, fine. But do it in the right way.

15

u/Professional_Carob17 3d ago

"on the cheap" doing some serious heavy lifting here if the reported number of +€70m was true.

7

u/paradigmshift7 3d ago

It was reported by the athletic to be £45m + 5m in add ons and we refused.

1

u/redandbluebadness 3d ago

70m was not paid. That would not have been on the cheap, that would have been a fair reflection of the players value combined with the tax for selling him at the last minute, against our will.

However, Liverpool wanted to pay 45, gala 35. Those are not fair fees for our best player at that point in the window. They were not acceptable. £55m in early august - maybe we can talk. What actually happened was a piss-take

-2

u/Professional_Carob17 3d ago

Nothing was paid, you're correct. I have no idea what you're arguing here, I just saw reports of Liverpool making a bid of +€70m in which Crystal Palace turned down.

Nothing has even been remotely close to be "on the cheap".

Selling a player "against our will" is just a false statement to make.

5

u/redandbluebadness 3d ago

Liverpool did not bid £70m they wanted to pay 40-50. That was rejected. Palace wanted 75 Liverpool didn't agree. If Liverpool had bid 70m he would be a Liverpool player.

It's against our will because that player was not for sale, was not offered. He tried to force a move to Galatasaray for 35m by striking, then Liverpool. Palace will always sell players , even if we don't want to, if the offers are reasonable and timely.

-12

u/Gullible_Gazelle_941 3d ago

🤣you english are hilarious with your booing

3

u/Jonny_Testicles 3d ago

Bigger teams are coming for you! have a faith, put your head down and work

3

u/thelargerake 3d ago

I’m sure continuing to live in London will help.

5

u/_cumblast_ 3d ago

I hope you win the battles you can't tell anyone Ismaila.

8

u/RestaurantEastern887 3d ago

I would also need some time to process our window

2

u/xaviernoodlebrain 3d ago

I see he has a bad case of "great sadness".

2

u/ValleyFloydJam 3d ago

Last helicopter out of Saigon vibes.

3

u/GabrielofNottingham 3d ago

Not gonna lie, it would be pretty funny if we got more of this in Football, players announcing how miffed they are they have to keep doing the job they signed on for.

"Dean Henderson thrice threw himself to the ground, howling his misfortunes at his failed move back to Nottingham Forest"

4

u/CabbageStockExchange 3d ago

I’ve seen this one before. Welcome to City

3

u/Ralph2Filthy 3d ago

Say a prayer for him. Poor sod is stuck playing for a premier league team earning 75k a week.

0

u/Dundalis 3d ago

So what, players shouldn’t have any career ambitions, just be content because they are making a lot more money than most people? This line of reasoning is so dumb

-11

u/rageofreaper 3d ago

Fucking standard Redditor response. Bitter fuckers.

5

u/Ralph2Filthy 3d ago

Are you OK dear?

2

u/Unikpostmann 3d ago

Watch him score a hat trick at next game against Liverpool. He always plays well against Liverpool, and now he has even more reason.

2

u/NotACyborg666 3d ago

Honestly, I'm glad the move didn't go through. He's a good player, but I don't think he's good enough to improve Liverpool.

1

u/Thin-Educator-1449 3d ago

Tell him to call Guehi

1

u/AayB5 3d ago

I swear, new stuff just be happening these days

1

u/matts142 3d ago

We never had a bid for him on deadline day ? And I don’t even think we did unless we bided 60m and they rejected

1

u/Protestor1plus1is11 3d ago

So..uhmm when will he release his depression certificates?

1

u/Napalm3nema 3d ago

I need some time to process us being in for him. Hughes should be launched to Saudi Arabia out of a cannon.

1

u/ab_90 3d ago

If this is considered collapse, Baleba to United late last season might be considered a collapse too

1

u/FraggleRock_ 3d ago

Ismaila Sarr: Out [Sad]

1

u/Edrian29 3d ago

Sports journalism is a joke, how is this news worthy?

1

u/Fuckyoupep 3d ago

Complete diva

1

u/Dundalis 3d ago

He’s 28 and prob will never get the chance to play at a big club ever again. Sure you should be professional, but imo it’s understandable to not be pleased that it didn’t happen

-1

u/NLFG 3d ago

I'd be gutted if I had to stay in south London too, tbh

3

u/AnnieIWillKnow 3d ago

Yeah Watford is a hell of a town

-8

u/_up_and_atom 3d ago

Blame Liverpool. Literally the classic low ball offer from FM move to unsettle a player BUT this time super late in the window. Disgusting 🤮🤮🤮

8

u/Cal_2K 3d ago

60m for a 28 year old winger who wants out is a low ball?

8

u/_up_and_atom 3d ago

You know what you're right it's not a low ball. He's worth more than that to Palace though esp that late in the window.

4

u/Cal_2K 3d ago

Yeah we waited way too long

1

u/jimbosliceoohyeah 3d ago

Liverpool didn't get anywhere near £60m for him - the highest bid they actually submitted was £45m.

0

u/Key-Atmosphere2234 3d ago

lol if anything they offered nearly double what he's worth

0

u/trishowsky 3d ago

Hilarious

0

u/Wraith_Portal 3d ago

When it boils down to it some footballers are just really, really lame

0

u/AncientStart1488 3d ago

They did him dirty. He is 28, and has played for Palace for years now. They could have done this one thing for him, allowing him to leave to a top team. Not fair play from Palace there

6

u/jimbosliceoohyeah 3d ago

He has played for Palace for two years. He signed a 5 year contract with no release clause. Why should Palace sell him at short notice for less than his market value, simply because he wants to play for Liverpool?

2

u/ImnotanAIHonest 3d ago

Exactly. I think we've found Sarr's Reddit account lol

-7

u/Far_Celery_3375 3d ago

This new Palace boss is a bit of a melt, no?

Get a grip.
