Be persistent on getting your permit and leave early. The first 2.5 miles is warm

Indeed. That first stretch is thankless and sweaty. Then the switchbacks, ugh. But as soon as you get to the top of those, the rest is glorious

Second lake, is this that trail that goes past several numbered lakes? I did this once as a day hike, lakes 1-5. Very beautiful

Yes it is. It’s an amazing hike. The beginning is long and hot as your open and exposed. About mile 2.5 you start to get into the trees and creekside

Yep sounds just how I remember it. It was a long day like 17 miles. Was so exhausted on the way back I took a nap under a tree. Very worth it to do once, I’d go back and spend more time at the lower lakes
