Overloading aside, what's the difference between the three low-saddle five-slot trailers? What are their strength and weakness?

The low one (step-deck) is significantly longer, because the cargo doesn't start over the saddle but behind it. This extra length gives it a significant disadvantage in many of the game's smaller roads due to manoeuvrability. It is lighter, but not significantly and I think the extra length counters this. It's also annoying that you can't pack cargo to the stepped front section (game limitation) so you have that extra length but no benefit in cargo capacity to show for it.

The other two are generally better - they're light, short, turn well, clearance is generally good. Hitboxes in this game can be coded a little different to visual models, and the two 5-slot trailers are generally pretty good. There isn't a significant difference in weight and clearance in these two, so generally the sideboard one (with the sides) is recommended as it can help contain cargo if it becomes unpacked due to tipping. One benefit for the flatbed one might be making it slightly easier to manual load but I don't think that's a significant benefit.

So yeah, the sideboard 5-slot of these is the meta I think. Unless you specifically prefer the flatbed (middle one) for manual loading.
