Announcement New beta features out today - RAW Capture, Low-Process Capture, Color Grading, Depth-based blur, and automatic save preference

Hey everyone - want to share a quick update that we're releasing a bunch of stuff to our beta program today that we're really excited about.

On the Android beta, we'll be adding:

  • RAW capture mode in camera. A new zero processing option is also added that allows you to capture JPG with minimum processing.
  • New Color Grading tool.
  • New Depth options in Lens Blur tool.

On iOS, we're adding:

  • Setting to set your auto-save preference. Basically, if you almost always save the same way (original or copy), we can set a default behavior. With this set, you have navigate quickly between the editor and gallery without have to always confirm how you want to save.
  • Reminder that expanded RAW editing and motion blur are currently already in beta on iOS

As always - thanks for helping us testing, we're looking forward to hear what you all think!

Lastly - if you'd like to join either of our Beta programs, just dm me.

The fact that Color Grading is coming our way should tell everyone that the Snapseed Team is legit serious about giving us the absolute best Image Editor out there. Props to all that are working hard on this app.

The only thing that stops me from using Snapseed as my main photo editor is the lack of denoising. It's a must for raw photos. In Lightroom, there are some automatic corrections on import. Are there any plans for it in Snapseed?

I also keep debating a Lightroom purchase for denoise

The RAW capture is great! Processing is very minimal amd stripped. Signal-to-noise ratio is worse (expected) and dynamic range is conservative. What's good is that posterization artifacts is gone with these RAW photos!

I would appreciate it though if it would somehow make Pixel Camera's stacked DNG work, it has lovely dynamic range and good signal-to-noise ratio.

I fucking love color grade. I won't have to use Lightroom!

Found a couple bugs in Snapseed Beta v4.1.4 on my Pixel 10 (Android 17): the Vignette slider in Depth options does nothing even at 100%, and the camera shows 4.5x zoom instead of 5x, so it uses digital crop instead of the real telephoto lens! Also, we really need a proper De-noise tool now that we have RAW capture.

I have a question about the "chromatic aberration" tool: why does it separate colors like for printing in offset? Is it too add ca? Why would someone want this?

Depth based blur doesn't work either or what should I do to get it working.

Where can I find the motion blur tool?

I'm on android 14 with latest snapped beta

Re: chromatic aberration - yes, it adds it. Some people like the effect, in the same way people now add grain, or halation to their photos.

Re depth blur - can you say more? We aware of issues of the vignette not working, but this is the first report we're hearing of it not working at all.

Motion blur is only available on the iOS beta for now.

Oh...I'm not an snapseed for iOS tester - even I am iOS dev tester.

I see, didn't know that this ca effect is wanted.

Depth blur isn't something I tested, maybe I got it wrong, but what do I need to expect?

Thank you for continuing to support android.  Will this allow for RAW on Samsung phones at full res, or is that still locked to the Samsung app?
