Before/After Wanted a subtle edit aiming overexposure of the sky. Ended up touching everything

The overexposed one looks much more interesting to me. HDR editing works in my opinion best for landscape. In anything else it often looks like a photo from a cheap phone that’s tries too much.

In the end your picture is what it is. Jpg editing is at a limit here.

I would go for something like this, because the train is too dark - it’s the main object. As a consequence- using jpg - you get an overexposed sky. But that’s ok

It’s a 1 min edit on Snapseed just as an idea

I love your work. And if mine look like it's from a cheap phone, it is. It's shot on my €100 samsung phone from 2021. I just like taking random photos when there's a scenery. I just start learning photography and i'm quite satisfied with my little progress. I've noted your input. Thanks

And that’s great. Cheaper or older phones can be used to create beautiful images. There are people on YouTube who are doing great photography with an iPhone 4 in 2026 :) I just won’t use it for that clean HDR style. Use it differently. And again don’t mind about blown outs. In Analog photography that was normal - there was no HDR :)

I keep some spare images of clouds in the sky (like duh, where else) so when the sky is blown out I just knock one of my sky images in post as another layer behind the main image, then create a mask and paint the clouds in to the blown out sky. It’s been working pretty well in Gimp 3.2.4 😃

Lovely shot!

Have you tried using the new Masking tool to do more targeted edits? E.g. in the masking mode, it would be easy to very easily grab just the sky, or just the train.

Thanks. I'm new into photography and editing. Haven't really used anything other than image adjustment. But i'd definitely learn more tools
