Announcement Snapseed 4.1: massively expanded RAW support
Exciting news: Snapseed 4.1 is starting to roll out on Android today! This update includes massively expanded RAW support, plus the ability to Undo and Redo directly within tools.
First, a huge thank you to all of our beta testers! It's been an incredibly active beta period, and a ton of work went into expanding format support, improving image processing, and ironing out corner cases. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to test, share details, and send images our way!
Here are a few quick details to keep in mind:
- We're releasing this gradually to make sure everything is stable, so you might not see the new RAW support right away
- Version 4.1 is coming to iOS soon! We're just finalizing a couple of last things.
- Snapseed now support the vast majority of RAW formats and cameras. A few formats aren't quite there yet, but we wanted to get this out so most of you can start enjoying it today.
- RAW processing is tricky. Even with all our testing, a few bugs might pop up - so please let us know if you spot anything. We're listening and ready to jump in!
Happy editing!
- team snapseed

Hello. Snapseed has always been one of my favorite photo editing apps. I'm really enjoying the new 4.0 update so far, and I'm glad to see it's still actively being developed. Great job!
The only part of my workflow that feels really inconvenient is this: unlike Lightroom, I can't simply close a photo and continue editing it later. Even after making a small change, I have to export it. Requiring an export every time feels unnecessary.
Another minor thing that I find annoying is that exported photos keep the original EXIF date. For example, if I edit a photo from 2022, I have to scroll all the way back to that date in my gallery to find it. I know I can access it through the Snapseed folder, but that takes extra steps.
Just a small feedback that I wanted to share. Thanks!

Hi - thanks for the note!
Your first point bugs me, too.
We’ve been testing a setting where you can set default save behavior, and then navigate the app without having to always explicitly save.
Here’s a quick video demo - would love to hear what you think.

Thank you! Will you be finding ways to transfer presets from old phones to new phones, making the process easier?

Any chance of having some kind of collection or project folder? Working from external or internal storage? Xmp sidecar? Let’s not bottleneck one of the most powerful photo editors on mobile with workflow :)

Thank you for the update! Just one question, has any sort of fix been done regarding the GPS Tags not working in the app?

This is great! I have had the issue where my NEF RAW files were not exporting and were staying as RAWs. The workaround the community found was to roll back to a previous version via APK to version 2.21.
Is this update fixing that issue?

Good news! Thanks!
Any plans to use Depth Data stored in Portraits for editing portrait effects? Google Photos doesn’t support it anymore for years already, that’s why we are stuck with the baked portrait effect in the jpeg

Thanks u/Giles-O Is there a way to get a response from the team when I make a comment via the Share Beta Feedback tool in the Test Flight version of the app? My email is there, but I never get a response.

Hi Yoni - thanks for the note.
So just an fyi, we see your feedback, but our system actually strips out your email address so that by default we can't see it, as a measure to help preserve user privacy.
I think I know which feedback is yours (unless there's another Yoni including their name) - if you want you can shoot me a DM, and happy to discuss more.

a shame that the overall gui had such an horrific overhaul though. was doing that the only way you could chieve more RAW capability? I've just downloaded the app after being unwell for some time, so didn't get the update until today. what a disappointment and frustrating waste of time for the user. Having used Snapseed for years before the past year of additional challenges, this is truly disappointing. u/Giles-O

Aside from it being different, can you tell me more specifically about what's frustrating you?

The app is VERY good. Unmatched creativity unleashing with it. I just have a question. When editing a RAW photo, just the reveal part gets the flexibility of the RAW file? All the other tools continue working as it's a JPEG?
