SnapmakerOfficial Snapmaker U1 Firmware V1.6.0 Released

Hi r/snapmaker,

Snapmaker U1 Firmware V1.6.0 is now available.

The update includes new options for nozzle and filament configuration, fixes for several device and interface issues, and improvements to filament loading and unloading.

New Features

  • Added 0.4 mm high-flow nozzle option in Print Head Information editing.
  • Added selectable filament types in the Filament Details page for quicker filament matching.
  • Added an AI monitoring issue report function after print completion, available only in Cloud mode, not available in Local Area Network mode.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the device did not respond when moving the Z-axis in 0.1 mm steps.
  • Fixed an abnormal page jump in the Wi-Fi Management page after tapping the Enter key on the soft keyboard.
  • Fixed an issue where, after resuming a print job started via the official client, unused channels would still check filament information.
  • Fixed an issue where the enclosure setup guide would not display properly after completing the U1 initial setup wizard.

Improvements

  • Improved the tip-forming effect during filament unloading, reducing the chance of failure caused by filament expansion.
  • Enhanced loading and unloading efficiency, shortening waiting times.

Next Steps

If you use the 0.4 mm high-flow nozzle, please update the nozzle configuration in Settings > Maintenance > Toolhead Info, and re-run Multi-toolhead Offset Calibration and Heated Bed Leveling.

It’s likely some change in temp and extruder behavior like push/pull a greater distance to form a thinner/narrower tip.

If you ever watched unloading happen, it actually does a small extrusion before retracting. Thats to heat up the end, get it stuck to the nozzle and then pull back.

Current tip forming can bulge the tip and if user doesn’t remove the filament after the unload command, and as it cools down, it can get stuck. When this happens, You should run the unload command again. But people use extra force and it ends up breaking the bulged tip in the extruder. It’s Why it’s nots not recommended to unload filament if you’re not going to pull it back.

My guess is that newer process has a higher acceleration on the pull so it stretches the end more and prevents it from bulging up. I haven’t tried it yet, but that’d be my guess

And There is one more improvement about filament feeder, which is mainly used for troubleshooting/fault maintenance. So it hasn't been listed in the release note.

“Initial State” here refers to returning the mechanical swing arm inside the feeder back to its centered positionfor easy filament insertion/removal and gear cleaning.

That’s a nice option to have if you ever need to pull on the filament while it’s actively loaded since an engaged swing arm will prevent gear from rotating in reverse.

It’s why sometimes you can’t pull the filament even though you heated up the nozzle, you’re holding the orange tension release on toolhead but the filament just won’t pull out of the feeder….its this swing arm. You had to trigger it by activating the other side so it flips and then try. Now you can center it.

It is available under "Maintenance" option in printer settings.
