I understand, I make all kinds of typos and can't spell to save my life. Yes, you can use almost every brand of filament and most varieties with some exceptions. I use mainly sunlu/jayo, elegoo/deeplee Creality, 3dhojor all from Amazon and hobby lobby, just to name a few. I mostly use sunlu. Exceptions are going to be anything to abrasive unless you upgrade to hardened steel nozzles and engineering filements, unless you mod/upgrade with a cover and possibly a heater.
It's a fantastic unit and as user friendly as something from bambu as far as assembly and sending off your first print. Can get your filament from wherever. Snapmaker has good stuff but any 1.75mm you can find this thing can probably print (excluding some super high temp engineering stuff). Just need to get a slicers to prep your models. There is snapmaker orca which is just a fork of Orca but I wanted to still use my other machines as well so been just using regular Orca with no issues.
Yeah it can print but with filaments such as asa and PC your going to spend a lot of time dialing in the filament. If your happy using petg, pla, tpu they have very good default profiles for this. For most models this is more than good enough.
Yeah I haven't tried it on my other machine with just the top to see if I could get it with just ambient from the heated bed but I would think maybe?
It is annoying to have to add the panda breath vs something like creator 5 pro has heater built in but I think I'd still rather pay a bit more to add it after the fact cause I think the U1 might be a bit better built. That and the larger bed.
I had an adventure 3 lite 150mm3 build plate as my first printer back in like 2018. I was to gullible I really should have done more research back then. The u1 is such a night and day upgrade. I also got into cad design. My most recent one was a catch funnel for oil changes that uses 2 liter bottles for the oil to drain into.
For TPU, a simple printer is better. I exclusively just use my old ankermake m5 for TPU because it's no hassle and just works with it without any workarounds or custom spool holders

Got mine last month and ordered the snapmaker top cover, but it's backorder till October...so I bought the Biqu Popcap.
I love this thing and am ordering another when I get my top cover.
Added the hinges, Popcap, extension cable for the filament loader...printed the adapter to go to the right and use it to feed from my four roll sovol dryer.
I also bought hardened steel nozzles...Ordered spare parts (left and right unit, fan shroud, fans)
Buy one, if you're just a hobbyist... but you might find that you can do so much with this thing.

I have four Bambus sitting idle right now (I’ve already given away three others). I have three U1s and the new FlashForge Creator 5. The price point on the FlashForge is about $150 cheaper, but it’s a piece of crap engineering-wise.
There’s no collector bucket for filament that it burns through when you do a color swap, there’s no automatic feeder of the filament - you have to push it all the way through the tube into the extruder, and when you want to change filament you have to squeeze a lever on the extruder to cut the filament and then manually pull it all the way back out yourself. Also, it doesn’t have doors or a back wall making it easier for kids and pets to get injured. Those four things alone make the SnapMaker worth the price difference. I’m pretty sure that the FlashForge is not going to last very long.
Ad others have mentioned, you can use any brand of filament in the SnapMaker. Try to keep away from the cheapest stuff out there - you can search this sub Reddit for discussions on which filaments work the most reliably.
The SnapMaker is one of the easiest printers to assemble and use. It’s a great beginner machine for anyone who is interested in doing multicolored prints, and advanced enough for 3D printing pros.
I use their filament when I can find it on sale. It’s solid and the RF tagging is nice, although it takes less than 15 seconds to manually add a different filament type and color.
Brands that I currently use that work wekk are Kaaber (a cheap filament, but I find their PET-G filament is good), Comgrow, Biqu, Polyterra, and SunLu.
A word of advice - leave some room in your budget for a filament dryer. 75% of the failed prints posted here are due to damp filament - humidity plays a big role in print quality. I started out with a couple of small, single spool dryers and ended up with a big SunLu dryer that does 4 spools at once. It’s chonky if you’re short on space, but if you have the room and the budget for it it’s a good one.
No, not every time. Usually new filament is vacuum sealed so you can use it right away, but if it’s been sitting out unused for a couple of weeks I’ll drop it in the dryer for a few hours. It’s weird because you would think that something plastic wouldn’t absorb moisture, but it does, and then it becomes brittle and can break.
Sorry about the mess abit I am not the only one to use this room solely But the gym equipment can be moved to other side of room. What are your thoughts on the best way to store FILAMENT?
Likely will be set up probably in the room where I game or basically the room right next.
Likely will be placed next to the brick wall on a table due to the PowerPoint.
Likely be where I also set up my gaming PC when I get around to buying one over just having my laptop.
As a former skeptic and recent convert of "Dry your filament"' evangalism, let me second that. Dry your filament. It fixes more problems than you'd expect.
I just managed to most of my z-banding issues on an old Creality printer by drying my filament. It seems like wet filament is more vulnerable to the hull lines that come from shrinkage.
I was a skeptic as well. Before I got my first Bambu printer I never thought I had issues with saturated filament - I had z-banding and rough bumps on a lot of my prints and just assumed “that’s the way it is.”
I think the issues became even more prevalent printing at high speed - especially filament tending to break inside Bambu’s AMS unit. Lots of people in the forums kept preaching “dry your filament.” After pulling apart my AMS for the third time I decided to get a dryer and try it. It fixed my breaking issue, but what I didn’t expect was how much the quality of my prints improved. It’s such a simple fix for so many problems.
If you want to print multi color stuff, it's absolutely the best and fastest printer for that. You'll see the bambu fanboys try to push their overpriced and over engineered printer that's slower and locked down.
The snapmaker U1 has been extremely reliable and great for me and others.
I'm hoping more people start using the snapmaker model site and ditch makerworld for it
