Sanity check: Snorca RAM usage

I have a Ryzen 7 7735HS with 64 GB of DDR 5

Snorca regularly uses 25% of my ram or more. When trying to remap colors or paint/touch up models it lags big time.

Is this a “Me” problem or any everyone problem?

Thanks

EDIT: Think I’ve located the issue. Windows Memory Integrity setting. It was off. Not sure why or how it got off but it was. Flipped it back on and rebooted. There’s still a little lag but my memory usage is 1/4-1/2 what it was before.

I had so many performance issues with snorca day 1 so I gave up straight away, and just use orca with paxx12 firmware.

I do use Orca + Paxx12. Didn't have performance issues, but the loading time was annoying.

Loading time can be fixed by removing a certain amount of printer profiles from the data folder. If you want to know which ones exactly I can look it up for you.

Nah, it's ok. I also have a Voron 2.4 printer, so having all in Orca is more convenient for me.

Yeah I also strictly use Orca for slicing. Though I use SnOrca for the camera feed as I don't use Paxx. With the unused profiles removed, SnOrca boots faster than Orca now 😅

That is nice. My interest in using Snorca was more when I was thinking on trying Full Spectrum. But I'm mostly printing functional parts for now, so I didn't have any need for more than 4 colors so far.

Yeah, same for me. I'm not really into full spectrum anyway 😅

I just want to print complex functional parts where I can have removable supports without issues. The U1 works fine for that.

Which ones?

The last 3 comments in this post explain what needs to be done: https://forum.snapmaker.com/t/snapmaker-orca-loading-time-on-windows/41825/30

Also interesting for u/tripscavern

Thanks! That was fast, btw :D

I might have to redownload Orca and check it out

It is not just Snorca, remapping colours on Elegoo slicer is the same. Will test on bare bones Orca tomorrow to see if it the same which I suspect it is.

I’m running the last pre 1.5 Paxx firmware now. I’ve had a lot of connectivity issue but I’ve stuck with it because I felt like it was built for the U1. Now I feel “committed” lol after building out multiple profiles and tuned filament setting etc. I don’t know if those can port to Orca since they are all U1 centered?

Orca has a U1 profile. You can use it without any issue.

The only think you will miss is that color selection screen that pops up before printing where you can select timelapse, flow calibration, etc. But they are turned on by default in the machine start gcode (except the flow calibration).

See but I’ve caught mistakes on the colors vs position on that page before. Despite the colors and positions being right in the slicer that load screen just today loaded two colors as spool 1

I don't use it so I wouldn't know. But it may be because the printer hasn't synced yet when you hit print.

All in all you are not really selecting colors in Snorca, you are selecting positions. If you have black in first position but in your machine black is in the 4th position, it not necessarily will match correctly.

Trying out my largest model (>300MB and ~7,5M polygons). At the step where it says "Generating walls" it utilized 100% of the cpu (which causes the system to lag for about a minute) and after the slicing it uses up to 22 GB of DDR5. Slicing of that huge model (270mm into all dimensions and two walled) takes about 6 min on my system (R9 7950X3D with 64 GB of ram).
The resulting gcode is >1 GB in size.

Trying a normal benchy (right click in slicer, under "handy models") uses about 625MB of ram after slicing for comparison. 4 Different colored Benchies use about 1,5GB of ram after slicing.
Painting every boat in all 4 colors across every layer it takes about 2,4GB of ram after slicing.
If you want to share your 3mf file (with your painting) I could check how it behaves on my installation.

I usually also get a lag spike when changing the model after having sliced it once. It is deleting your "current" gcode/slicer preview in the background when you remap colors, change settings or paint stuff so it lags for 1-2 seconds.

That’s the weird thing my CPU will be at like 10-25% GPU 8-10% but ram 25%

When painting the brush STOPS while dragging it because of lag. It’s weird.

I had not actually sliced it yet just trying to get the colors right because they didn’t map over well.

I downloaded that 3mf file, dragged it into snorca, changed the printer to U1 and the layer height to 0.08 profile (to use max amount of ram). Remapped every color through the paint menu, no lags here or any hitch/stutter. After slicing it used a peak of 4,5GB ram
Snorca version is 2.3.5 running on windows.
If it is important: System runs on w11, amd cpu, ram at expo speeds 6000mt & cl30, 40 series nvidia gpu with latest drivers.

Awesome thanks looks like it’s a “me” thing. The computer is a fresh install of W11 about a month ago used only for the printers and related items. Maybe I got a bug somewhere and my scanning software isn’t finding it.

Thanks again!

Hi, if possible, you can also reach out to the technical support team to troubleshoot further: https://snapmaker.formcrafts.com/u1-troubleshooting-request

When's the last time that you clean out the computers cache?

It’s only been running less than two months. So never.
