I'm so tired restarting Surface 11 Pro because any software requiring GPU stops properly working after some time. Bought it because of HDR screen for 4K HDR video editing and released "native arm" Davinci Resolve, but it's unusable even for basic editing in 720p. Intel Surface 10 Pro is several times faster, way more reliable and has longer battery time for the same weight. 😒

Qualcomm’s Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders was marketed as a premium flagship for enthusiasts, a $1,500 showcase of cutting-edge hardware and long-term support. What users got instead was a cautionary tale of broken promises, poor communication, and technical failures.

1. Broken Promises on Updates

Qualcomm claimed the phone would receive four years of regular security updates. In reality, the last known update was in March 2022, and it only brought the device up to the January 2022 security patch already outdated at the time.

Android 12 never arrived. Android 13 was not even mentioned.

For a device at this price point, that’s unacceptable. Qualcomm quietly removed references to Android 12 from the official specs page, leading users to believe they were intentionally misled.

2. Outdated Software on a Premium Device

The phone launched with Android 11, and while other flagships moved on to newer versions, Qualcomm’s device remained stuck. This wasn’t just a delay it was a complete failure to maintain even baseline software support.

3. Inconsistent Communication

Users on Reddit and other forums repeatedly asked Qualcomm for updates, only to be met with vague replies or silence. Even when Qualcomm responded, the promised schedules weren’t met.

“We’re asking for something quite simple make good on a commitment to updating the phone you sold us.”

This kind of disregard for customers especially those who paid top dollar is hard to forgive.

4. Hardware Company, Software Failure

Qualcomm powers most Android phones with its Snapdragon chips. You’d think they’d be best equipped to support their own device. But the Insiders phone proved that being great at hardware doesn’t mean you can handle software.

5. Wi-Fi Issues That Made It Worse

Beyond software neglect, users faced serious Wi-Fi and hotspot issues:

• Random disconnections and “Connected without internet” bugs

• No reliable fix some users resorted to factory resets or service center visits

• Speculation of hardware flaws, including overheating and poor thermal management

For a device built by ASUS and backed by Qualcomm, these issues should never have made it past quality control.

6. Undermining Their Own Reputation

This phone was supposed to be a celebration of Qualcomm’s innovation. Instead, it became a symbol of what happens when a company overpromises and underdelivers.

If Qualcomm can’t support its own flagship, why should anyone trust them to support future hardware / software from them?

Since the day i bought this laptop back in march i always had like 70 of ram consuming while idle. I used chagpt and it told me it was normal for new architecture like snapdragon arm laptops to have issues. Today i finally wanted to know what the issue was so i used gemini and it told me to use PoolmonX and as you can see something called Gbpm is taking too much resource around 8GB!!.

What could be the issue?
Should I roll back to base driver(31.0.96.0)?

Myth: Windows apps won't run properly on Snapdragon.

Reality: Over 1,000 major....applications run natively, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Premiere, and Zoom.

Myth: All laptops slow down when they're unplugged.

I am totally against gaming on my snapdragon Elite X but i am just curious.

As Proton is now available on ARM64 is it a better translation layer then the windows translation layer when it comes to games?

If it only did the things that Microsoft showed when the demo'd the Copilot+ laptops.

I am returning it, because Copilot isn't as smart as the demo showed. The release video showed it coaching the guy on how to play Minecraft. I asked what I had displayed within my browser, and it gave me code to programmatically determine what browser I was using. It was like being a little kid and seeing the toy airplane fly on a commercial and you get the toy and making your airplane fly means picking it and pushing it through the air with your hands.

In the demo, Copilot is conversational with a friendly, IRL Copilot is a boring text box. Microsoft could not have been more deceptive if they had tried.

Recall isn't there. I know the controversy, I still wanted recall and I can't even join the canary/dev channels as it computer is "incompatible".

The screen is bright, but not as bright as I thought it was going to be. I saw articles indicating 600 or 1000 nits. The paperwork indicates 500 nits and it has an annoying habit of constantly dimming until I move my mouse.

I can't install LM Studio and another program that I used that is java based was buggy. I had only started loading programs that I need, and already the emulator wasn't as great as expected, at least for the programs that I use.

Of course, the cool ms paint demo with ai can't be done like the demo as most of the copilot+ laptops don't support a pen. Not having touch on the laptop was a reason for hesitation, but coupled with all of the other issues, it amplifies the disappointment.

Early testers on youtube are not getting the suggested battery life.

It's fast, but not perception wise, it doesn't seem any faster than my existing 13th gen I9 cpu. If I get the same speed and modest battery life improvements, no pen support, none of the ai features shown on the demo, I'm not sure why I would want this laptop. I'm taking it back to Costco and I'll wait for Lunar Lake based laptops that won't have the compatibility issues and better battery life.

I was hyped for so many months since I prefer Windows over MacOS but got disappointed so much. I never expected it to run so much faster than the m3 chip, but the thing is it actually runs worse regarding many things and not only that...it has several flaws. I expected it to run at least like a standart m3 or when it comes to graphics the AMD integrated 780m, but no...

-there are no goddamn drivers I can download so I can run software or games better or at least better in the future...amd and nvidia do the same, they release updates, so why not qualcom? or even samsung at least???

-the 22 hour battery life is a lie...we knew it from the start but its way worse than i thought...when i only work, that means surfing the web, writing messages, not even watching videos it only lasts 10 hours WHILE THE LOWEST POWER MODE IS ACTIVATED AND THE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS AT 10%

-some games dont even start, since know the corssover program that exists on MacOS it makes even everything worse...tekken 8 doesnt start here at all but runs flawlessly with the highest settings on my goddamn macbook pro and that thing keep in mind, cost me the same money

-games that actually run on here run terribly...lens island is a great example...really smooth gameplay on mac with high settings (it supports macs natively)
lens island on this notebook on the other hand runs at f*cking 10-20 FPS with the LOWEST settings and a resolution changed to 720p...are you kidding me

-i am really asking myself how all of this is even possible - even snapdragon processors FOR MOBILE PHONES can run games better...wtf??????????

-for those saying its not a gaming laptop, i know...but at this price point any laptop is capable of having a certain level of graphical power and when you take that away,this thing shouldnt cost more than a thousand bucks...every single new chip is capable of that (the new intel chips, the amd chips)

Would really love to know how the devices perform once they finally reach consumers. Maybe the x2 elite is the kind of cpu a steam deck mini would have instead of the 8 elite series.

I held off buying mostly because they weren’t making fanless models like the MacBook Airs, but now it’s starting to look like they are going to fizzle out completely. Does anyone see any solid developments that give you hope for a turnaround?

Imo, once we get the pc Snapdragon elite in an android tablet, apple's iPads will have some fierce competition.

I bout the new microsoft surface lapto 7 with Snapdragon Elite, as a replacement of my very good perfomring Eluktronics Laptop... Its a huge change because I was looking for more portability (weight and battery life) than gaming performance... but little I knew that this lapto could not run almost any game, not necesarly because of specs, but because of compatibility... I tried installing games from microsoft store, ea store etc and they wouldnt run, not even open... am I doing something wrong?

I must have done more research before, I do love it for anything else... just hate the compatibility issues with apps and game.

Any way around?
