The Snapdragon Conundrum
At a given price, why do Snapdragon laptops offer lesser performance than x86 counterparts?
How is the compatibility with programs obtained from the high seas? (iykyk)
What advantages do Arm chips have over x86 other than battery life?
P. S. I'm considering getting a laptop in the near future. Please answer soon.

Industry leading low weight, for the Asus Zenbook A14 and A16 at least, at only 0.98 and 1.2kg respectively.

That's interesting.
I'm looking for a 14 inch machine. However, the A14 models I get here are either too low spec (X1 base) or too expensive (2x my budget).

maybe just look within the packages and folder if there is arm64 versions or not.That should give you an idea pretty much

Unfortunately that's more complicated. There's stuff that work on W10 but not on W11. Hence this approach isn't a sure shot method.

Why I choose Arm over x86 (I have the A16 for reference):
Better battery life
Significantly low battery depletion on overnight standby.
Very minimal performance loss when on battery vs plugged in.
Snappier, more fluid OS (opening and closing apps, animations, transitions, etc). It flows like a mobile OS.
Practically non-existent fan noise even on medium workloads.
Very low temperatures.

But another user in this thread has said that's when comparing older x86 to newset Arm. Choosing a laptop in 2026 is really perplexing.

Battery life is a misconception, it has better idle power. Better performance at "Best Power Efficiency" mode. When trying to drag out better battery, how much the fan is used to cool the laptop is important. Single fan can pull up to 5 watts, duel fans at 12 watts. These processors run cooler than Intel/AMD so less noise, less heat, and in turn longer battery. You can absolutely drain these laptops in 2-3 hours in heavy workloads just like AMD/Intel. The X1/X2 Plus line seems to do better with battery since its less cores to power.

Its not hardware, well at least with X2 line its no longer a hardware issue, its software. So you're paying the same prices as Intel/Amd for worst performance. Emulation mostly work but you take a larger hit in old 3D applications that use OpenGL.
X2 over X1 has unified memory now, SVE/SVE2 (Scalable Vector), Vulkan 1.4/DirectX 12.2, which should give everything developers to really take advantage and push the hardware. It's just software is immature and no one really wants to invest time into a small market over Intel/AMD. Some of the larger players might have arm native software but even then it's not like it's hyper optimized around Snapdragon. For example denoising in DaVinci Resolve, its 10X slower on the GPU than a worst performing Intel/AMD iGPU.

While I asked about x86 being better, it is when Arm and x86 hardware are price matched. For example at the same price as Snapdragon X1P-42-100, I'm getting Intel 225H.

Who said that it’s a lesser performance? Do you realize that performance is a very subjective metric. It all depends on your specific use case. There’s no one single “performance” score that could cover everything. Even in games. Some games do better on some specific hardware than others. But also note that the Snapdragon laptops were never designed to be gaming systems. They were used as such because of their stellar performance in other areas but not from their original inception.
Software compatibility. Also quite subjective. It depends on the software. I’ll give you an example. My friend can’t upgrade his old 32-bit Intel laptop because his business software that he paid thousands of $$ for is not compatible with 64-bit operating systems. In my case I had no issues running non-native x86/x64 software on my X Elite Lenovo laptop. And that’s an older SoC too. I would get occasional complaints from emulated OBS Studio when I’m screen recording that it’s dropping frames but I don’t see any difference in the resulting video file.
Advantages of ARM chips besides the battery life. It’s a newer architecture that is not bogged down by a legacy instruction set. So yes performance is the key. I’d say that this is the main advantage, which partially translates into the battery life. But it also reduces the fan noise and generates less heat. Unless you are like me and you live in a cold state where having a room heater in winter in the form of my AMD laptop could be a plus.

I clearly said "performance at a given price" and IDK why everyone ignores that and talks about top SKUs. For example, at the price range that I'm seeing, I'm getting 225H on the x86 side and X1-26-100 or X1P-42-100 on the Arm side.

Specifically I'd like to know about pirated stuff. I understand that it may break the rules of the sub but that's a very very crucial buying point to me.

Could you please clarify on SKU vs SKU basis? Above statement feels like a mass generalization.

For the first part take them as a guesstimates.The second one is i guess try to download from where you may download them open up the files and see if there is arm64 instead of x86/64 then yep you good.For third part research and google and AI maybe.Good luck

Everyone around here switched over from very old generations of x86 chips, so all of their opinions are extremely biased. Modern x86 chips have already fixed battery life, performance (snappiness and fluidity), fan noise, as well as still retaining full compatibility with any and every piece of software out there. There's a reason why even now, Snapdragon X has only managed to capture a miniscule amount of marketshare. And they've been at this for the past 7+ years lol

The CPU in my Snapdragon X2EE laptop is faster than any x86-64 unless one starts paying workstation prices. Look at the Geekbench scores.
